Lacey
I watched the brunette seated in front of me, while she talked on the phone, her eyes wandered to the bar where three other women sat staring at us. I looked back down at the picture I was holding, Amelia, I read the name again. I stared into those captivating green eyes, my hands started sweating, I gripped the ends of the table with one hand and the other reached up to my head which started to pound.
'Ley,' I heard a voice whisper, 'Ley,' I tried to open my eyes, tried to stand, my legs wanting to move, I didn't know why but I needed to find this woman.. this Amelia.
'Lace, Lace,' "Lacey?" My eyes shot open, a worried blonde hovered over me as I laid on the floor. "Oh my god Lacey, are you ok?" Her voice sounded panicked as she pulled me up into a hug. Her embrace felt familiar. 'What was wrong with me?'
Images flashed through my mind, the blonde and a younger version of myself, opening my eyes once more my blurred vision took in the others standing above me. I locked eyes with a beautiful brunette, sitting up, my hand reached for my head once again.
"Lauren, Jackie, give her some air." Jackie, the name swirled in my mind. More snippets of images. Soft lips, laughter. "Kid, get some water."
The man James, his hand raised before he swung down and struck me across the face. 'Dyke!' Cool liquid being forced down my throat did nothing to temper the rage building within. I watched as my teenage self, cowered in fear.
"Move back," I heard that same voice from before, filled with authority, mixed with.. with.. worry?
My eyes snapped back open. She was there kneeling beside me. "Sarg?"
"I've got you, Lace." She helped me to my feet, the pain in my head subsiding to a subtle throb. "Let's get you back to command, we have a lot to discuss."
"You think that's wise?" A younger, short haired brunette said handing me the opened bottle of water. I gulped down the cool liquid all while locking eyes with her. She looked familiar but I was too confused and kept my guard up.
"Hey." The blonde I did recognize came to stand next to me.
"Lauren," I pulled my sister into my arms. "What are you doing here?"
"I came with Morgan," she smiled. "I'm so glad to see you."
"I know, it's been awhile, how do you know the Sarg?" I asked wondering why my sister was here. A tap on my shoulder had me turning around.
"Remember me?" She asked.
My legs felt weak, as I locked eyes with the woman I thought was gone. How is it she's here, "Ja-Jackie? Wha-How?" I stuttered tears began to sting my eyes as the lump in my throat prevented a sob from breaking free. I reached out a hand and gently placed it against her cheek, she was real, she was here.
"Hey, Lac..." her words were lost as she let out a small moan escaped as I captured her lips and pulled her close. If not for the others present I would have thought I died and this was all a dream. "Jacks," I whispered as our lips separated.
"What the fuck!" I heard an angry growl, Jackie was ripped from my arms and a fist connected with my jaw dropping me to the floor.
I looked up and back and forth between the short-haired woman and my girlfriend. Anger build within me, is this why she's been avoiding me? pretending to be... dead? Jaw clenched, I jumped to my feet. "Stand down soldier!" I stopped my forward movement. My heart pounded rapidly against my chest, causing me to wheeze as I struggled to breathe.
"What the fuck is happening?" I moaned and gripped my head once again and dropped to my knees. I tried to keep my eyes open, tried to focus.
The last image going through my mind was that of the redhead before my vision turned dark.
The noise around me was deafening, every muscle in my body hurt, my mouth was dry and my head pounded like I was waking up with a bad hangover.
"What the fuck do you mean we've lost them?"
"Morgan?" Rolling over on the soft platform beneath me was confusing. For the longest time, all I felt was the hard dusty concrete floor of my prison. I remembered the unbearable pain in my body as my wounds tried to heal and new wounds were created as my hooded captors tortured me over and over.
"Lace.... "
"Where am I?" I tossed my legs of the cot and sat up, "Jackie?" I was surprised to see her standing next to the bed. "How am I here?
"Thank god, you're back." Jackie seemed to let out a breath of relief.
"Amelia?"
"She's fine she's at the hospi..."
"What?" I jumped to her feet.
"Calm down Gunney, she's okay, I have guards on her as we speak," Morgan said approaching me.
"Guards? Take me to her now!" I ordered.
"We will but first I need to talk to you about what's going on, I need to know if you have any idea about the plans Davis and James have."
"Why would I know about Davis and James, he's locked away so what are you talking about?"
"What's the last thing you remember?" I felt my body start to tremble as I recalled the beatings I received day after day, while locked away. A wave of nausea hit me, the smell of the dark cell and the stink of my festering wounds. I placed a hand on my right thigh where I knew the worst of my injuries were and shakily sat back down on the bed.
Rubbing my hand over my thigh, I could feel the rough outline of the old wound, "How long?" I looked up at Morgan and questioned, knowing it had to have been a while if my wound had closed. Morgan looked away not wanting to meet my eyes.
"How long?" I growled getting impatient.
"Give us some privacy." Morgan looked over to Jackie. "Kid hand me my tablet." Sean walked over and handed it to her and wrapped her arm around Jackie's waist and escorted her to the other side of the room.
I felt sick, thinking about the videos I just watched. Rushing over to the nearby waste basket I dropped to my knees trying to expel the contents of my stomach as I heaved over and over again. How could I have let them break me? how could I do the things they had me do? What if those people were injured or worse what if I killed someone.
I sucked in a deep breath remembering the footage from the holding facility. I let those monsters loose. "Where are they?" I asked trying to get my breathing under control.
"We lost them."
"Take me to her, Cap." I knew Morgan didn't have to have me explain what I was asking. I needed to see my wife, I needed to make sure she was safe.
