You had just spent a long day helping Gou with the workout regime for the swim team. Being the assistant manager was taking its toll on you and you were so ready for a vacation. Backstrokes, Breast strokes, Butterfly, all of them just made you want to grab your surfboard and ride waves until the sunset. Surfing was the only thing that cleared your mind and with Gou going on nonstop about the teams muscles, you couldn't help but day dream of the perfect wave.
With all the day dreaming going on in your head you never quite noticed the brunette from swim team gazing at you from the swim lanes. He just couldn't get enough of the look you got when you started to day dream. A slight smirk started across his face when Haru nudged him.
"Its been three years now, when are you going to tell her how you feel?" He said plainly.
"I haven't found the exact right time, Haru. I also have been focused on the relay this year." Makoto retorted. Haru just nodded in acceptance.
The next day you had given into the temptation and had called in sick to school and told Gou you couldn't make it to practice. You were watching the morning weather report while eating cereal when the weather man reported the beach waves would be exceptionally high mid day.
You grabbed the surf board and headed for the beach. The sun was hidden behind the morning clouds. An eerie feeling passed through you but nothing could keep you from the thought of freedom. The waves crashed against the shore aggressively sending ocean mist across your face. It only gave you an exhilarating feeling jolting through your toes and you could only imagine that it was the same way the guys on the swim team felt every time they jumped in the pool.
You had paddled out into the middle of waves waiting for the perfect one and once it came you braced yourself. Your heart started to race with adrenaline and your mind cleared itself. The wave came and everything felt right until the wave shifted unexpectedly and your foot slipped from the board. You plunged into the water ready to swim back up but the tide swept you up near the rocky edges of the cove near the beach. You had hit the rocks hard sending the breath right out of you. The waves wouldn't let up and it seemed as though the end was near.
You weren't going to give in that easily you braced yourself against one rock with your right leg and all of a sudden as though the waves became angry they pushed harder. A snapping sound came from your leg and tears streamed down your face.
After making the way onto the boulder with only one good leg you felt relief wash over you. The waves had died down and people had accumulated on the beach. You were picked up by a couple on a jet ski and rushed to the hospital.
*TIME SKIP TO THE NEXT WEEK*
Gou had been calling you non stop and so had the other guys wondering where you had been for a whole week. You had been too embarrassed to answer any call or text even from your best friend Gou. Everyone was worried especially Makoto.... He had been distracted day in and day out from class to practice.
You left the hospital with a cast on your leg regretting every decision you made the day of the incident.
The crutches started to hurt your arms as you made your way to the pool. Nagisa was the first one to notice you and almost cried. You had explained to everyone what had happened.
Gou was the first one to speak up and tell you how they had decided to host a dance for all the swim teams competing in the tournament. You were excited at first but then remembered your leg. Gou had still persuaded you to go and even bought you a velvet red backless dress, the one you had glanced at every time you and your best friend had gone to the mall.
The thought that no one was going to even want to talk to you at the dance was settling in the back of your mind as you walked into the ballroom with your leg still in a cast.
The room was filled to the brim with more boys than girls you could have had your pick of any guy at this point but you weren't one to interested in being swept up by some princely man. You had found an empty table and decided to spend the rest of the evening there watching everyone else have fun.
Everyone twirled around the dance floor as if in perfect sync with each other.
Makoto had been late having to make sure his siblings were in bed before he left. He walked through the doors noticing the only girl sitting. He made his way over to you and let his courage take over not wanting to think of what would happen next. He slipped into the seat next to you.
"How is your leg doing?" He tried to strike up a conversation. You sighed and stated "Its not as painful as watching everyone else have fun." You forced a small smile onto your face making sure Makoto didn't see the sadness inside of you. You had always admired him for never being afraid to face his problems. The one thing you couldn't do. Makoto had always been there, he was there when you couldn't swim and sat on the sidelines watching everyone else. He had told you that trying was a lot better than watching. After that you had tried everything that's partially the reason why you love surfing because he had inspired you to go for things out of your grasp.
Makoto had jumped from his seat at this point and looked at you with all the joy he had and said " Trying to dance would be a lot better than watching from this table."
You couldn't help but smile at him and also wonder how you would dance with a broken leg. He then picked you up in his arms and started to spin onto the dance floor. You had buried your face into his chest trying to hide the blush creeping up onto your face.
Makoto had always brought out the best in you and you wanted that feeling to last. After the song had ended you looked up into his green eyes and saw everything you dreamed of. They had reminded you of every time you swam and of the peaceful waves gliding against the shore.
You had just realized he was the one always there when you failed, he was the one to save you from being left out.
You may have been zoned out for a while because Makoto had been staring at you too. You both broke from trance and realized the iwatobi swim team was chanting.
"KISS KISS KISS"
Makoto looked for reassurance before smashing his lips into yours. A warm sensation rushed through your veins as your lips moved in rhythm.
You both had blocked out the music and the chanting and it felt as though you were the only two people in the room.
1229 words! Yeah I felt pretty good about this one. I may have even cried tears of joy. Don't forget to comment and request. I need more requests!
