The rest of that week and that weekend, I tried to distance myself from Niall as much as I could without him noticing. I would only answer about half the times he would face time me and rarely ever text him first. Now it was Saturday and he was supposed to be coming to stay with us tomorrow.
Amy still hasn't talked to me since that night we went shopping. I wouldn't blame her. That was the first time I hung out with her since I met Niall and I was going to end the night right when it started all because of him.
Niall ended up face timing me when I got home asking about the fans I ran into. I cleared it up but he was still pissed someone would even make stuff like that up.
The doorbell rang and I sighed, getting drawn out of all the thought circling in my head.
"Tessa, Door!"
I jogged down the stairs and smiled at my mom before going to see who was here. I was a little confused seeing as I wasn't expecting anyone. Niall wasn't coming until tomorrow morning so I knew it couldn't be him.
I opened the door and my smile dropped seeing Amy standing there sobbing. I immediately rushed over, pulling her into a hug.
"Amy, oh my god, what's wrong?"
She didn't say anything, she just cried harder. I wrapped my arm around her and helped her inside my house. My mom walked over and frowned, taking Amy from me.
"Honey, what's wrong?"
"My D-dad hit m-me."
As soon as it left her mouth her knees gave out and she collapsed, sobbing on the ground. My mom looked over at me with worried eyes and I sat down next to Amy, pulling her close to me. She cried into my chest and I rubbed her back trying to calm her down.
"Do you want to stay here tonight?"
She nodded and I helped her up. I led her up the stairs and into my bedroom. I rummaged through my drawers until I found sweats and a shirt and handed them to her.
"You can change into these so you're more comfortable. Get some sleep okay, you'll feel better in the morning and then we can figure out how long you're going to stay here."
She smiled softly at me and wrapped me in a hug.
"I'm sorry I snapped at you the other day. I was just having family issues and felt like no one was there for me."
I shook my head and smiled at her.
"It wasn't all on you. You were right, I have been so focused on Niall I forgot there were other people in the world that were just as important as him. I'm sorry for that."
She smiled at me again, grabbing the clothes out of my hand and walking into the bathroom. I walked out of my room and down the stairs to let my mom know she was sleeping. My mom was pacing at the bottom of the stairs and I walked over to her, trying to calm her down.
"Amy's sleeping; I told her we'd figure out everything tomorrow. She probably wants space from her dad for a while so she can sleep in my room."
"But Niall's coming tomorrow, where will you sleep if all the extra beds are taken?"
"Mom, we'll figure something out. I'm not going to make her go home and see him if she's not comfortable. Just because Niall's here doesn't mean she can't be. Besides, I think it's about time my boyfriend met my best friend."
She nodded and smiled at me before walking into her bedroom. I sighed and plopped down on the couch, pulling my phone out.
Niall had texted me saying how excited he was to see me tomorrow. I texted back a quick reply and stood up, walking into the guest room. Only a few more hours and Niall would be with me again.
I woke up to someone shaking me awake.
"Tess, wake up, you have to go pick up Niall."
I groaned and swatted my mom's hand away.
"You go do it."
"You sure? He seemed quite excited to see you last I checked."
My eyes shot open and I went to glare at my mom for reading our texts but my mom wasn't standing there, it was Amy.
"Amy? You're fine with Niall staying here for a while?"
"Yeah, but only if I can come. I want to meet the boy that my best friend is falling head over heels for."
I blushed and yawned, crawling out of bed. I threw my hair up in a bun and slipped on some leggings along with a cute sweater. I went into the bathroom and brushed my teeth.
I grabbed my keys and put my glasses on before walking downstairs where Amy was sitting on the couch watching TV. She heard me coming down the stairs and looked over, smiling.
"You ready?"
I nodded and kissed my mom on the cheek before following Amy out the door. The car ride was silent except for the radio since we were both dead tired. When we got to the airport, we parked and walked in, waiting for Niall to get off. Amy looked over at me and sighed.
"Look Tess, honestly I'm sorry about all the shit I said to you the other night."
"Amy, you don't have to keep apologizing, it was my fault too."
She nodded and smiled at me.
"Thanks for last night. It was probably a bit shocking that after a week of ignoring you I just showed up at your door at midnight, sobbing."
I pulled her in for a hug and shook my head.
"It was nothing Amy, you're my best friend. It's not like I was going to let you sleep outside."
She laughed and pulled away, wiping away a few tears. I smiled sadly at her and turned my attention back to the terminal as people started getting off the plane.
As soon as I saw Niall with his snapback and sunglasses on trying to hide his face, I took off running towards him. His face lit up when he saw me and when I reached him he picked me up, spinning me around while I clung to him. He set me down and I immediately leaned up, kissing him. He smiled into the kiss and broke away, leaning his forehead up against mine.
"God, I missed you."
He kissed my nose and grabbed his bags, walking over to wear Amy stood. He set his bags down and pulled her into a hug. She seemed a bit shocked at the gesture but laughed and hugged him back.
"You must be Amy, I'm Niall."
"Nice to finally meet the guy that stole my best friend's heart."
"The pleasure's all mine."
Niall picked his bags up again and flung his arm over my shoulder.
"I missed you babe."
"I missed you too pop star."
He rolled his eyes.
"Wow, the first words I hear out of your mouth all day is that bloody nick name."
I smiled innocently up at him and put his bags in the trunk since we were by the car. I got in the driver's seat, Niall hopped in next to me in front and Amy got the back.
"Tess, could you drop me off at home, it's about time I went back."
I looked back at her surprised.
"You sure Amy? You can stay with us a couple nights if you want. My mom won't mind."
"I can't run from my problems all the time Tess. If anything happens I'll come back to your place, okay?"
I tensed up but nodded. Niall shot me a look but I ignored it. She's right, you can't run from your problems all the time because sooner or later, all of them catch up to you and it's overwhelming. That's how people usually break. That's how I broke.
