Free looked to him. “What’s your real name, Bond?”
He smiled. “My name? My name is Hadikura. Aian Hadikura!”
He lunged at Baxter and he revved his sword. The asian boy smashed his iron blade first, then his blood sword. It exploded then returned to his fingertips, but the iron blade stayed. Aian held strong against the strength of even the tessaiga blade. Becky took a slash and Aian let go of his sword and jumped. The spinning chainsaw sword launched his blade skywards. Aian clapped his hands as he drew his glyph and he wore an odd armour. He held up his arm and Baxter sawed away.
“It’s useless,” Baxter screamed, “he solidified the blood in his arm!” Aian caught his sword and swung. Baxter launched backwards. Aian held up his hand. It was mostly black but the gold was trailing.
“Me and Bakaian are far to close. I’m honing my abilities for the big fight.” He then twirled his sword and held it with both hands. Becky went to strike him but as he slashed his sword phased through the shadow. Becky lept out of nowhere. “Oh its our team leader!”
Becky snarled. “What did you call me?”
“Do none of you know class roles?” Aian asked. Everyone shook their head. “The tyrant leads, the wizard fights alone, the bender sobs, the conjurer seduces, the controller befriends, the heir teaches, the sion paves, the warrior survives.”
They all looked to each other. They felt as if only a few of those fit their persons. Free launched in and disarmed Aian. “I thought we weren’t done fighting!?” Free growled.
“Oh, we were fighting. That was a nice little spar.” A black bubble formed around him. Baxter held his hand against it and Becky was on the otherside.
“So you don’t run away. I’ll hold you in my faculty quarters tonight. As for Becky, I need to speak with you. Alone.”
After all was said and done, Becky met Baxter as the sun set by a hillside. They sat on the bench. “So, Becky, this is the first time we’ve been alone since I… killed you.”
“Hey, shit happens. Why did you want to see me?”
“I wanted to get to know you. I love the dark witches and all, they’re like family to me. But I feel a connection to you and I can’t explain it. Hey Becky?”
“Yes, Baxter?”
“Can I do something?” He asked.
Becky gave a nod. “I guess.” She said sweating. Baxter leaned in and kissed her.
Free sat and watched Aian’s dark bubble. “So, Aian, what brought you to the academy. Looking for someone?”
“I’ve known I was a witch from a young age. I’ve been deeper into kin than any human. I’ve battle through the chamber of demons.”
“The fabled chamber!?”
“Yeah, well its a lie to say I battled. It was more of a run and scream for my mother. I’m not all tough.”
“I guessed as much.”
“Anyways, I met the dark witches before I met you guys. Mine actually. She was the first to wake. Shortly after Jaden’s dark self, Jade, also rose. They said to have just, known their names. Like it was just preprogrammed knowledge. I came to find the other witches, especially the fabled Jaden Hodash. That boy can fight. But you and your sister, Wraith, Gozlin, are all astounding warriors. We’ll be great Raiders someday, but we have a mission. We’re part of something bigger. Each of us has an unspoken connection with your dark selves. I’m surprised you haven’t felt it yet. She’s here you know. At the academy.”
Becky pushed Baxter off of her. “I’m sorry but, I have a boyfriend…”
“I’m sorry I didn’t know. I just wanted to kiss you. I have a relationship to. Jade, Jaden’s dark self.” Becky remembered the long black haired girl. She wielded a naginata with extreme precision and skill. A born Legend.
“Baxter, I’ve been with Raven’s light self. Wraith Skrin. That man can fight in and out of bed.”
“You have, uhm, affairs with him…?”
“Yeah, well, we both enjoy it and do it regularly, so why stop. We aren’t stupid. Plus, I, l-love him.”
“You sounded unsure.”
“I’m sorry this really isn’t your ground to talk is it?” Becky picked up her bag and stepped out leaving the bench as the sun fell behind the horizon.
Baxter leaned back and sighed. He needed a suit if we would pass off for a professor.
Free kept listening to his mind. He walked through the halls until he spotted a girl in the hall of waterfalls. With a white eye.
“Fiona!” He called. She turned and drew her glyph. “I’m not here to fight!” Free said again. She sheathed her black circle.
“Why did you come? Did you want to sneak up on me?”
“No, I couldn’t let my younger brother go alone.” She looked up and walked. She looked natural in a black dress and a blue scarf. “You know how that feels right?”
“More than you could imagine. Why the scarf? It’s warm out?”
“Concealing my face. I’ll be here until we return. If we return. I want to seem mysterious.” She muttered turning away.
“Fiona! Join the class! Help your brother teach us!”
“No.” She said. Everything seemed to stop. “I do not agree with the path my brother has chosen. He should have stayed with us. But instead he left for you fools. He betrayed us, but I can’t let him die. When he comes to his senses, we will return to the shadow manor. Until then I will remain here, hidden in the crowds.”
Free held her shoulder. “Hey, listen…”
“Don’t touch me!” She screamed. Her scarf fell. “You gave me my eye. You cursed me with this. You bastard.” She started to cry. “Show me yours.”
He swept his hair and pried open the eye with his fingers. I was a bloody scabbed mess. “I couldn’t accept it. I tried to get rid of it and failed. Don’t destroy yourself over it. Embrace it.”
She looked at him with desperate eyes, unsure as to what to do. She hugged him. “This means nothing.” And she ran off. Free took a step back and looked down. Her scarf laid at his feet. He had changed his mind.
Baxter would not know she was here.
And neither will anyone else.
