Chapter 16: Last Resort

When Ash and the others found me I was sitting on a building not far from the lab.

"Kat, please come down!" He called up to me. I didn't look down at them, just to the sky.

Life without hearing my Pokémon wouldn't be a life at all. Not to me at least.

"Please Kat!" Serena called up as well. I finally looked down and saw them all looking at me sadly. They knew this pained me more than anything.

I frowned slightly as Umbreon looked at me worried. I got up and jumped down. It shocked them all as I flipped, landing perfectly.

"I can't..."

"Kat it will make you better."

"By taking away the one thing that makes me who I am."

"Kat..."

"I won't!" I yelled as I looked at the ground, tears were welling up in my eyes. "I won't lose my friends!"

"You wouldn't be losing any of us. We're still here, we still love you." Umbreon said lightly.

"Umbreon..."

"Please it will make you better and you'll get what you always wanted deep down, to be normal." I looked at her and frowned.

"I had learned to love what I could do." I walked past them and back towards the lab. "But if you ask I can't say no...I would never do anything to upset you, Umbreon. You're my best friend. That will never change."

"Kat?!" My uncle said shocked to see me standing in the lab once more.

"I'll do it."

"Are you sure?" My father asked.

"Yes." Umbreon and the others walked into the lab quickly.

"Then let's get started." My uncle said and I followed them into another room. A bed was in the middle of it with monitors all around it. I felt my heart beat quicken as I approached the table.

"I'm sorry...." I muttered under my breath as I laid down in the bed. Quickly I felt my body slipping into subconsciousness.

When I woke up I felt different somehow, but I didn't know how exactly.

"How are you feeling, Kat?" My uncle asked coming into my vision.

"Like someone hit me with a Hyper Beam." He chuckled.

"Yeah you might be in some pain for a little bit, but the surgery was a complete success. You are perfectly healthy." I frowned and saw Ash standing there with Umbreon.

"Umbreon...." She walked over to the bed. "Say something." She frowned and then spoke. I heard her name come from her mouth. No words I knew nothing. "So I really don't understand Pokémon anymore..." I sat up and felt a sharp pain in my chest.

"You mustn't move yet, your wound hasn't recovered yet." My father said coming into the room.

"Don't baby me." I said sharply.

"Kat..." I got out of the bed feeling sick to my stomach. I walked towards the mirror and saw I looked normal, nothing about me screamed special anymore.

"In breaking news, an organization known as Team Rocket is on top of Prism Tower attacking a Blazkein that has Mega Evolved." I heard a TV nearby say. I turned my attention to it to see Team Rocket on the screen.

"Let's go Umbreon!" I called out and rushed out of the room with her, though it hurt to run.

"You really should rest." She said through Telepathy.

"I can rest later." We arrived at Prism Tower to see the balloon hovering in the air. "Latias let's go!" I called out and hopped on her back as she appeared. Umbreon jumped on as well.

"Well, well look who decided to join us. The ordinary Pokémon trainer now." James said to me smirking. I clenched my teeth together.

"I can still beat you three."

"We'll see about that! Inkay use Psybeam!"

"Dodge Latias and use Dragon Pulse, Umbreon use Shadow Ball!" The two attacks combined and blasted the three away. We landed on the ledge and I returned Latias. "Blazkein are you alright?" He nodded happily. I heard a crack and saw the ledge underneath Umbreon had broken and she was falling towards the ground far below. I ran and jumped off the edge grabbing her tightly as we fell towards the ground.

I didn't want to leave this world this way. I wanted to live my life to the fullest but have I really done that? Maybe, but I don't want Umbreon to have to suffer this way too.

"I won't let them take that away from me!" My body glowed brightly and when I opened my eyes I was an Absol, Mega Absol to be more correct. I rushed past my falling Umbreon and landed on the ground, creating a wind to let her land gently on the ground.

"Kat!" Ash and the others came rushing towards me. I looked like a normal Absol, white fur and all.

"This is impossible, you shouldn't have been able to change forms. But here you stand before us as an Absol." My father said shocked.

"Guess I'm just special." I said changing back to normal, smiling. Umbreon jumped into my arms and I laughed happily. "I'm glad you're alright buddy."
