Chapter 17: Kalos League

My uncle and father had run some more tests to check everything out and the genetic coding error that had been taking place in my body before the surgery was just gone. They couldn't explain it.

I was free to start my journey again and I started it off with winning the rest of the gym badges I needed in order to challenge the Kalos League.

Many months had passed since I had last seen Ash and the others but when I had stepped foot in Lumoise City for the league I picked them out of the crowd immediately.

"Ash!" I called out and he turned waving brightly.

"Hey Kat!" I walked over to them with Umbreon right at my side. Some people turned and looked at me. I stopped when I saw a Diantha, the Champion walking towards me.

"Diantha." I said smiling determined.

"Katherine this shall be an interesting league with you in it. Ash as well, I look forward to seeing who will come out on top." I nodded and looked at Ash.

"Let's hope he's gotten stronger."

"So Kat, what were you and Diantha talking about earlier?" Serena asked while we all ate dinner.

"Oh nothing really. Just about the league." I said and got up from my seat.

"Kat?"

"Sorry I think I want to get some last minute training in." I said as Umbreon followed me outside.

"Charizard let's go!" He appeared and immediately tackled me. I chuckled. "Good to see you too."

"Whoa you have a Charizard now!" Ash said coming out.

"That's right. Charemelon evolved back at the Lumoise City Gym." I smiled and Charizard helped me up.

"So I take it you'll be using Charizard in the league?" I nodded.

"How could I not? He's been so excited for this."

"How about a battle?" Ash asked.

"Sure." I winked.

"Pikachu let's go." Pikachu jumped off of Ash's shoulder and I smiled.

"Charizard, let's show them a good battle. Use Flamethrower!" The flames' heat was so intense I had to back away a step.

"That's one strong Flamethrower, but we can overcome anything. Pikachu dodge and use Thunderbolt!"

"Charizard use Fire Blast!" The two attacks combined in the middle causing a giant explosion. But the Fire Blast was a lot more powerful than the tiny Thunderbolt and Pikachu was blown back.

"Pikachu!"

"Your Charizard is really strong, Kat." Ash said as he picked up Pikachu.

"So is Pikachu. Charizard and I have been training for this for a while. We won't lose. Not to you and not to Diantha." I returned Charizard. "We're going to win the Kalos League and no one is going to stop us."

"We'll see about that."

"Welcome to the Kalos League in beautiful Lumoise City!" The announcer said into the microphone.

"Everyone I would like to thank you all for coming and I wish every trainer here the best of luck." Diantha said smiling. A roar of cheers came.

"The first round of battles are listed here." I turned my attention to the screen and saw I was paired next to some random guy.

"Alright the first battle in the Kalos League is going to be between Katherine, the Champion of Kanto vs Louis of Lumoise City."

"Champion or not I'm going to win."

"We'll see about that."

"Goodra let's go!"

"Charizard let's finish this!"

"Finish this don't make me laugh. Goodra use Dragon Pulse!"

"Counter with Dragon Claw and then use Dragon Pulse!" Charizard cut through the Dragon Pulse and blasted one back at Goodra sending it flying into the wall.

"Goodra!"

"Good work Charizard." I touched his head lightly.

"Salamance let's go!"

"Charizard use Dragon Claw! Show them your true power!" In seconds Charizard was in front of Salamance.

"What?!" Salamance was slammed into the ground by the Dragon Claw.

"Is that the best you can do?" He clenched his teeth.

"Altaria!"

"Another Dragon Type." I sighed. "Time to make this battle much easier for us." I touched my necklace which now had a keystone. "Charizard listen to my voice and go beyond evolution. Mega evolve!" Light poured from all around us and as it faded Charizard had mega evolved. It's scales had gone from orange to black and had blue flames pouring from his mouth.

"Mega Charizard!" The guy said now scared of the power we wielded.

"Charizard Flamethrower!" The flames blasted Altaria into the wall.

"I-I can't beat her, she's too strong... I forfeit." The guy said. Charizard went back to normal.

"By default then the winner of the first battle is Katherine." Cheers rose from the crowd but I simply turned away.

"That was a pathetic first battle." I sighed under my breath.

"Congrats Kat." Ash said as I came back into the waiting area.

"It was hardly a battle nothing to congratulate me for." I went to the seats that Serena and the others had gotten for us.

"Hey Kat that was a great battle you had."

"Thanks." I watched for the rest of the day. Ash had won his battle no problem which didn't surprise me.

"I wonder what tomorrow will bring for us?" Ash asked as we headed back to the hotel for the night.

"Katherine." I stopped as I heard Diantha's voice. I turned and she was giving me a harsh look.

"Yes?"

"You don't understand what Mega Evolution is do you?" I was surprised by the forcefulness of her tone.

"What are you talking about?"

"You didn't treat mega Evolution like it was special you treated it like it was a joke." I flinched back as I thought about the battle between Louis and I this morning. She means how I used Charizard's mega evolution to make it easier to win.

"I..."

"Did you even think of Charizard's feelings?" I looked at the ground, I hadn't I hadn't even considered Charizard's feelings.

"I...I'm sorry Diantha."

"You're sorry? You shouldn't be apologizing to me, you should be apologizing to Charizard." She stormed away and I looked at the pokeball at my waist.

"Kat..."

"I need to be by myself, I'll see you all back at the hotel." I walked away from everyone and to the battlefields behind the Pokémon Center. "Charizard come on out." He appeared and looked at me worried. "I'm really sorry, I shouldn't have made you mega evolve for no reason other than to make everything easier for me. You must have been in so much pain... I'm sorry." Charizard touched my cheek with his head. I looked at him and he was giving me an it's okay look.

Tomorrow we're going to show Diantha that we don't need mega evolution to win.
