After making a short detour back to Lumoise City, Umbreon and I had traveled the rest of the way to Cyllage Gym. I took a deep breath and stepped inside the gym.
"Hello? I'm here to challenge the Gym Leader of this city." I called into the darkness.
"Welcome, my name is Grant." The lights flipped on revealing a man with weird different colored rocks in his hair.
"My name is Kat. I'd like to battle."
"But of course." We took our places in the arena.
"Alright the battle between the gym leader Grant and the challenge Kat is about to begin. Each side will use two Pokemon each and the battle will be over when one sides Pokemon are all unable to battle. Also only the challenge is able to switch out Pokemon. Now let the battle begin!"
"Alright Frogadier let's do this."
"A predictable choice to start with, Amaura let's get this rocking!"
"Amaura?" I pulled out my pokedex.
"Amaura, the Tundra Pokemon. Amaura is a calm creature that lived long ago in a cold land without violent predators. It is a quadruped, dinosaurian Pokemon similar to sauropods. It has a long neck neck and a short, stubby tail. Above its large, deep blue eyes are two sail structures, which are yellow at the bottom fading into pink towards the tips."
"Hmm a prehistoric Pokemon. Not bad. Froagaider use Water Pulse!" I called out quickly. He quickly blasted one towards the Amaura.
"Dodge and use Ice Beam!" It moved so quickly for something that was a Rock Type. The Ice Beam started charging quickly at Frogadier.
"Dodge and use Quick Attack, followed by Water Pulse!" I called out and Frogadier rolled out of the way of the Ice Beam, taking off towards Amaura at full speed. Then blasted Amaura and then blasted it back even farther back when the Water Pulse was launched.
"Amaura is unable to battle so the winner of the battle is Frogadier." The ref called out as the smoke cleared, revealing a unconscious Amaura.
"Interesting, I thought for sure that the Ice Beam would have been fast enough to stop Frogadier." Grant explained, he was super laid back for a Gym Leader. "This next Pokemon won't be a push over though, go Tyrunt!" Another dinosaur looking Pokemon appeared. I pulled out the pokedex out for this new Pokemon before me.
"Tyrunt, the Royal Heir Pokemon. This Pokemon was restored from a fossil. If something happens that it doesn't like, it throws a tantrum and runs wild."
"So we have a spoiled prince? That shouldn't be too hard to beat. Frogadier use Water Pulse!" I called out.
"Tyrunt, dodge and use Stomp!" Grant called out and as Tyrunt dodged into the air Frogadier stared in horror as it rammed down on to it from the sky.
"Froagadier!" I called out.
"Frogadier is unable to battle therefore the winner of the battle is Tyrunt." I returned Frogadier.
"You were amazing get a long rest now. You're impressive Grant, I never would have thought Frogadier would lose, but now you get to deal with my partner. Umbreon, let's go and do this!" She jumped forward quickly.
"Then this should be an interesting match. Tyrunt use Ancient Power!" Large rocks appeared and started falling towards Umbreon.
"Dodge and use Dark Pulse!" She dodged quickly and blasted Tyrunt back.
"Not bad, not bad at all. Use Dragon Tail!" Tyrunt's tail started glowing a bright green color as it charged Umbreon.
"Umbreon, listen to my voice and go beyond evolution. Mega Evolve! Then dodge by jumping into the air followed by Shadow Claw!" Umbreon quickly Mega Evolved and then jumped into the air.
"Impossible! I had never heard of an Umbreon Mega Evolving!" Grant called out shocked and then Umbreon slashed Tyrunt back. It collapsed to the ground slowly and I smiled brightly.
"Tyrunt is unable to battle, therefore the winner of the match is the challenger Kat." I hugged Umbreon tightly as she changed back to normal.
"We did it, we won! Our third gym badge is finally ours."
"Congratulations, Kat. You really bested me and my prehistoric Pokemon. I am throughly impressed with your skills. The Cliff Badge is yours." He handed me the badge and I jumped in the air excited for the first time in a long time about battling.
"Thanks so much, Grant."
