**This is what I want Carl to look like, not what he looked like in season 1-2 in the show**
Rayne's pov
I pushed twigs and branches away from me, running for the tree line. I felt my arrows hit my back each step I took, but I needed to push myself, something could have happened. I need to get there and help if someone's in trouble. I saw the bright green grass of the field and stopped as soon as I was out of the woods and frantically looked around, my hair whipping in the wind.
I saw a man carrying a boy, and then I saw one of Hershel's guests, Otis, trying to keep up behind them. I felt bed for the guy, he seriously needs to lose some weight if he's going to survive this new world. I jogged up to the house, still carrying my Vortex and tried to find Beth, or Maggie to tell me what just happened. Instead I saw my mom.
"Hey, mom, do you know what happened?" I asked, slightly out of breath.
"The boy got shot by Otis. Otis was tracking a deer and the boy was right behind the buck, Otis shot, the bullet went straight through." Mom said rushing her words. All I could think about was a buck, I wonder if it's still there.
"Mom, which direction did he get shot in?"
"That way." She said pointing to my left, I nodded my head and started into the woods again.
I was about three minutes in when I heard a mumble, I looked around and saw one of those things. I didn't hesitate at all and sent an arrow through its head. I retrieved my arrow and kept walking.
Ten more minutes and I saw the buck, not even touched, it was perfect. I grabbed the hind legs and started pulling, I had a really good routine for carrying deer so that it's easier to drag the 500 or so pounds. Within twenty minutes, I had successfully dragged the deer out of the woods and pulled it onto a safe area to start skinning it. Since the power was out, I couldn't preserve it as well, so the meat would have to be eaten today, or tomorrow if I covered it in salt.
I had skinned and gutted the deer and got all of the meat. I left the guts and grabbed the fur and meat. We could use the fur as a blanket once I had cleaned it, it's what my dad used to do. I took the fur and meat up to the house and saw at least ten people standing in the kitchen.
"Rayne, don't bring that into the kitchen!" My mom scolded.
"Where else am I supposed to put it? In my pockets? Mom, this is good meat, we can eat it tonight or tomorrow, I just need to salt it if we're eating it tomorrow, I can't let all of this meat go to waste."
"Fine, but make it quick, I'm sure these people don't appreciate you salting meat."
"Well, they can deal with it. If they don't like it, they can go to the living room."
"Rayne, watch your mouth!"
I raised my hands in false surrender and laid the meat on the counter and found the salt. I set it on the counter and put my knife, Vortex and arrows next to it. I saw all of the people looking at me. I noticed one had a crossbow, I think he's my favorite and I don't even know his name. I looked down and rubbed the meat with salt. Next I took the skin and cleaned it, but it would need a couple of days to air out before anyone could use it.
"You drag the deer outta the woods?" The man with the crossbow asked.
"Yep, skinned and gutted by me." I said with a slight grin.
"Where'd ya put the guts?" He gruffly asked.
"Out by the treeline, why?"
"Those things eat guts, we gotta get 'em outta there, before they find it." He said, walking outside, I nodded and followed him, knife in hand.
We took the guts and burned them. Yep, I've never heard of it either, but we burned the guts. The smell was terrible, I almost threw up. After they were burnt we walked up to the house together.
I saw Beth walk down the hall looking in every room,
"Rayne, my dad needs you." She said leading me to a room.
"Rayne, do you know your blood type?'' Hershel asked
"Um, B+ why?"
"Because Carl needs some blood and nobody else has B+ blood, we need you to give a blood transfusion." He explained and I nodded.
"Ok." I sat in a chair and Hershel put a needle in my arm and drew the blood. It was kind of cool to watch my blood leave my arm, and into another person.
"All done, now, for the rest of the day take it easy, no hunting, no running, and no climbing. It would be best if you just laid down for the rest of the day."
"Ok." I said, feeling slightly tired.
I went to my room and pulled on my shorts and tank top and laid in bed, thinking about today. I had killed one of those things again, but this time I didn't even hesitate, it made me feel like a murderer. And they eat guts, that's disgusting. That guy with the crossbow seems pretty cool, in the morning I need to get to know him better. The guy who got shot was pretty hot, which is weird saying, I mean, he did get shot, I could be worrying about his well being. I wasn't complaining, I heard it was already pulled out, so in a few days, maybe five or six, he should be able to get up and walk around like a normal person, he wouldn't be able to lift or anything, but it was better than being in bed all day long.
When I woke up, the sun was shining and I stretched, yawned and got up, I put on my jean shorts and a black t-shirt. I wished that running water was still an option, because I knew I needed a shower, maybe there's a creek or river nearby, I'll look today. I put my deodorant on and scrubbed my teeth with a toothbrush, no toothpaste, because there's no water to rinse with. I combed my hair and put it up in a ponytail, it was times like this that I loved myself for thinking ahead.
I walked downstairs and saw the crossbow guy eating meat, my deer meat. I smelled it from the kitchen and saw my mom cooking the meat on a gas stove, she got some out of the pan and put it on a plate for me I took it and sat down across from crossbow guy.
"So, you like crossbows?" I asked, trying to make light conversation.
"Yeah, you like Vortex's?" He asked smirking looking at my bow.
"Pretty much, you like to hunt?''
"A hobby of mine, you like it?"
"It's my life, been doing it since I was seven."
"Cool." He said and finished up the meat.
"So, what's your name?" I asked him,
"Name's Daryl, what's yours?"
"Rayne."
"Well, nice to meet ya." He said and got up, leaving the room.
