Rayne's pov
"Where?" Rick whispered.
"Over there, in the left barn, I heard screams and I'm pretty sure it's them." Rick nodded and told me to stay put, while he gathered everyone up. About five minutes later, everyone was gathered up and Rick told us the plan.
"Alright, here's what's going to happen, Rayne and Beth will walk out there like normal people that live here, because they've never seen their faces before, they're going to sneak into the barns and take out anyone who's in there, but if the Governor is in there, I want one of you to hold a knife to his neck. The other needs to untie Glenn and Maggie, who knows what kind of state they're in." Rick said and handed me a knife after I showed him I lost mine.
I nodded, understanding the plan and terrified that I have to walk out there, what if someone does recognise me? I don't know how many of them actually saw me. I can't just shoot them, or else people would know that I'm not from here. I took a deep breath and prepared myself.
We walked out of where we were hiding and looked around, we started walking to walk towards the barns where Glenn and Maggie were being kept. Luckily nobody even gave us a second glance.
We looked around before opening the door to the barn, and the smell hit me first. There's only one thing that smells like this, death. We hurried and hid behind the corner, and I peeked around, nobody was there, dead or alive. I stepped out, Beth following, and I opened a second door and saw Glenn and Maggie tied up in chairs, their eyes widened and looked happy. They had their mouths covered with duct tape, so they couldn't talk. I told Beth to untie them while I kept watch for guards, or the Governor.
Once they were untied we snuck out of the barn, and I handed Maggie my knife, just in case something were to happen. We made it back to the group, unharmed.
"Are you guys alright?" Rick asked and they nodded.
"Yeah, we saw their leader, he said something about a girl being locked in a different barn on the outskirts of the property." Glenn said, and I immediately knew it was me they were talking about. We needed to get out of here.
"Well she's not ours to save." Rick said and started walking towards our cars. We all hurried to the cars, being super careful not to get caught. Once we were all there, we loaded up again and returned to the prison. I walked back inside and decided to take a nap, because I have nothing else to do. I put all of my weapons down and took my shoes off. I put my arm over my eyes and sighed. I was just about to fall asleep when I heard a knock on the bars of my cell.
"What?" I asked, still keeping my arm over my eyes.
"Um, my dad needs you." I heard Carl say and I got up and put my shoes back on. I walked out of my cell and down the stairs and saw Rick sitting on the bottom one.
"Um, you needed me?" I asked Rick as I sat down and he nodded his head.
"Yeah, we need to talk about something."
"Like what?"
"Lori."
"Oh, what about her?"
"She's due anytime, and I'm not sure if she's going to be able to make it."
"She will, I know it. She's tough and she won't leave without a fight, I promise. I'll make sure to keep Carl calm." I said and Rick nodded, patting me on the back and dismissing me. Little did I know, Lori was due the next day.
Screaming is what I woke up to.
"Get the gates! Grab your weapons, clear the building!" Was the first thing I heard and I jumped up and put my shoes on, grabbing my weapons and headed downstairs.
It was chaos. Walkers were everywhere and gunshots were going off, people were crying and others were running for their lives. It took a second before everything sunk in, and as soon as it did, I ran outside. I saw almost everyone killing walkers by the fence and putting logs up to support it where it had fallen.
They had secured the gate and I did a head count. Maggie, Lori and Carl were missing, as in gone, nowhere to be seen. This is when everything went downhill.
