One week later.
Kara was sitting on the edge of the bed in the room she's been staying in at Caitlin's house. She was wearing a black dress, with a long black raincoat over it, and black flats on. Her hair was curled and left down. They just got back from a proper funeral/burial for Jeremiah, considering they didn't have one the first time, even though he wasn't actually dead, they believed he was. The weather was very appropriate for the event, it was stormy with thunder clouds rolling in nonstop. Kara kept thinking about what a failure she had been to both her biological family and foster family. She also thought about how she didn't want to be Supergirl anymore, if she couldn't protect her family how was she supposed to protect a whole city?
She heard a quiet knock at the door and saw it open slowly revealing Barry clad in a suit and tie. He crept in and closed the door. "Hey, you doing okay?" He asked and sat down next to her.
"I think so. I'm just thinking," she replied. There were still a few stray tears running down her face.
He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and wiped a tear away with his thumb, "It's gonna be okay, Kara."
She leaned into his touch without even realizing it, "I know it's just." She paused, "I can't be Supergirl anymore, Barry. If I can't protect my family, how am I supposed to beat metas or aliens?"
"Kara, it's your decision, but you're the strongest person I know. And I know you love doing that, so in my opinion you should keep doing what you love and what you're good at," He leaned closer. She didn't really know what to say or do at the moment. All she knew is that she wanted to kiss Barry Allen so bad.
"I'm just, confused, I guess," she replied quietly, referring to her feelings towards Barry and her feelings about her foster father's funeral. Barry just didn't know about her feelings towards him though.
"It'll get better, I promise," he slightly whispered.
She wrapped her arms around his neck pulling him in for a hug. He hugged her back. "You're the best, you know that?" She said into his shoulder.
They pulled away, "I've been told once or twice," he said teasingly.
She chuckled, "Thank you for saving me."
His eyebrows furrowed, "what do you mean."
"I mean from spiraling after my family died, and helping me fit into your earth. You are literally the only thing that's kept me sane," She explained.
Barry blushed, he rubbed the back of his neck bashfully, "Well, I-I'm trying to help. I-It's really nothing."
"I mean it, Barry. You are," She paused and felt a blush creep up her neck, "Well, You're my hero."
'Supergirl of Earth 38,' a voice said in Kara's head. Kara whipped her head around.
"Did you hear that?" Kara asked.
Barry gave her a confused look, "No?"
'Supergirl, you failed,' it said.
She turned her head toward the window to see if it was closed. It was. "There it is again."
"What? What is it?" He asked.
She looked at him, "It sounds like some kind of voice. You seriously don't hear that?"
"No," he paused, "What is it saying?"
'Kara Zor-el,' it said in Kryptonian, it sounded like her biological mother. 'You failed to protect your cousin, and now you failed to protect your family. One more you fail to protect, then you know the consequences.' Then the voice went away, Kara had a confused and upset look on her face.
"Its kryptonian. My mom," she said.
"What did she say?" He asked further.
"One more screw up and I have to face kryptonian consequences," she answered.
"What does that mean?"
"It means if one more person I care about dies then, I lose my powers. And I'm not exactly in their good graces for failing to protect Kal-El the first time," She said sadly.
"But I thought Krypton didn't exist anymore," He said.
"They're relentless, they'll do anything to make me do what really is impossible anymore, even haunt me. Literally," Kara explained briefly, "My parents especially. They were never the best of people."
"I'm so sorry, Kara," Barry stated.
She looked at him, "For what? You didn't do anything."
"Zoom came after you because I care about you, a lot. That's what he does, he comes after people I care most about, to get to me. It's basically my fault any if this happened," he replied.
"Barry it's not your fault. Hunter is an addicted man when it comes to speed, he wants his high and once he gets it he wants another one. Like a drug addict. None of this is your fault, it's his," Kara reassured him. "He chose to be that kind of person."
"Yeah, I guess so," Barry said still unsure.
"Barry believe me, I don't blame you. No one blames you. You wanna know why?" She paused, "because you didn't do anything wrong."
He sighed, "I'm not gonna win this argument, am I?"
"Not really, no," she said.
He chuckled, "Okay."
Kara wasn't really sure how she has such an amazing person, like Barry Allen in her life. But she was sure of one thing, she didn't want to lose him. He always seemed to make her feel happier just by looking at her, and he made her feel safer just by being in the same room as her. She didn't exactly know what she would call that but it's what she felt for Barry. She had an understanding with him, a bond for lack of better reference. And she didn't know it yet but it was almost indestructible.
