I was in a conference meeting with the publishers when my phone rang. I forgot to put it on silent. Seeing the caller ID, I had to leave immediately. You called. At last, you called. I can hear Tuns apologizing to the people I left in the room.

"Hi."

"Maine! Hi. Hi. Thank God you called. I was so worried. You—"

"Pwede ba tayong magkita ngayon?"

"Ngayon?" I poke my head at the side of the door. The publishers weren't happy. Tuns looked like he was ready to kill me. "Of course. Why?"

"I just miss you is all. Hindi na ba pwedeng ma-miss ang boyfriend ko?"

Screw the meeting. Screw what they'll think. I'll have it rescheduled. "I'll be there in fifteen minutes."

It's a Sunday, a free day, but here we are, passing time on your balcony. You didn't want to celebrate Valentine's day because "that's not how we roll". You said celebrating love should be done every day, not just on the fourteenth of February. And I agree.

You plopped beside me after setting your speakers to low (your dad was yelling from his den for you to shut it down) and rested your head on my shoulder.

It was already after dark. The stars were hiding behind clouds (possible stargazing crossed out). The only source of light were the lamps on your garden beneath us, and the fairy lights in your room. We were content in our silence when I remembered what I brought you.

It was my book. Finally, I got it published. I wanted you to have the first copy. "Sa'yo na. Hindi ko kailangan 'yan."

"Wait. Is this—"

"Yup."

You tackled me with a hug, sending us both on the balcony floor. "I'm so happy for you!"

"Read it out loud for me?"

You shook your head and buried your face on my neck. "No. Masyado ng malabo yung mga mata ko. Gabi na. Read it for me instead?"

"Kiss muna."

"Richaaaaard, come onnnnn.."

"Nicomaine."

"It's just a two day one night vacation. Sama ka na please?"

"I'd love to but—"

Call ended. Sht.

"Happy birthday, Meng."

You whirled around upon hearing me, the flash of your camera blinding me for a moment. "RJ. Anong ginagawa mo dito? You have a book talk thingy somewhere in a few minutes, 'di ba?"

"It's your birthday. Of course, I would be here. Pwede naman ma-late doon."

"Really." Did I say something wrong? "Lalabas kami ng mga kaibigan ko para mag-celebrate mamayang gabi. Don't worry, they'll bring their boyfriends with them kaya guarded kaming lahat. I'll ask Ken if he could give me a lift when it's time to go home."

"Wait. Hindi ako invited?"

"Hindi ko alam kung gusto mong sumama. Do you want to go?"

"Why not?"
