Okay so like a week ago my mom and I watched the Hairspray Live and it was so good!!! Other than a couple mic/lighting problems it was really amazing. Anyway, I was listening to Hairspray recently and the song "I Know Where I've Been" came up and I was listening to the lyric "There's a road/ we've been traveling/ lost so many/ on the way" it's an absolutely beautiful bit of the song and it got me thinking about loss and such and then I realized something. What happened to the father??? We know Miss Maybelle has at least one kid (Little Inez) so there was probably a man in her life at some point and knowing the time period she was probably married BUT a husband is not in the picture and since divorce was no very common in that time it was more likely that he's dead. My theory is that he was a black rights activist but was killed by the police during a rally which led to Miss Maybelle also being an activist but more careful about herself and her kids. Sorry it's sort of dark I just thought that was cool. Anyway for an apologize and to cheer you all up here's this:
