Chapter 15: Goodbye For Now

Colson shook me awake. "Baby.... Babe... TENLEY!! Wake up baby we're here." I sat up slowly while rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. We were right outside of the venue we were playing at tonight and everyone was rushing around to get stuff out of the bus and inside. "Where are the kids?" He shrugged, "with Ash gettin' food or something. You need to wake up baby, we need to go do a quick soundcheck before everyone gets here." He put one arm under my legs, and the other around my torso and lifted me into his chest. Slowly we made our way outside and into the venue, where he laid me back down on a couch. I could feel Colson lay next to me, playing with my hair and rubbing my back. I was almost asleep again until someone busted into the room. "Ay man! We need to do soundcheck, Ash just called and is losing her shit because we ain't ready yet!" I rolled over to see Slim standing in the doorway, obviously aggravated. "Dude I don't think Ten feels very good, she's been out all day long." He looked from me, to Slim and then back to me. I gave him a smile and told him I was okay. "Okay, but the minute you need me you call me, I'll be right back baby." I nodded as he kissed my forehead and disappeared around the corner with Slim. The silence in the room was nice compared to the constant chaos, but it quickly turned into a bother. So I plugged my headphones in and started to listen to my music. I was singing along with Robert Plant when all of a sudden I felt my phone buzz. I grinned thinking it was Colson checking on me, but when I looked down at my phone it was a private number. I opened the text message and froze.

Private: "I see you guys got to San Diego okay, Hunter seems to be having a good time, I'll let him know you said hello."

Me: "Who the hell is this? Leave my son alone!"

I started to shake uncontrollably, after a minute or two the private number answered me back.

Private: "You'll know soon enough."

I called Ashleigh and told her to come to the venue now. "Why? What's going on Ten??" "Ash just get here NOW. I'll explain when you guys get here, all you need to know is it's not safe where you guys are and I want the kids with me, please hurry." I hung up the phone as Colson and the guys came back in the room. They were all laughing and messing with each other, until they saw me. Colson dropped everything in his hands and ran to my side. "Babe what's wrong? You're as white as a ghost. Are you sick?" I shook my head and handed him my phone. He read through the texts quickly and then chucked my phone at the wall. "Mother fucker!!" Simultaneously the guys asked what happened, he told them what the messages said, then looked back to me. "Where are the kids Ten?" "They're with Ash, I just called her and told her to get here fast, I don't know where they were though, Colson I-I don't know what to do." I started to tear up and in a flash he picked me up and held me. "Babe, the kids will be okay, I promise. We'll find them and this asshole, okay?" But, I couldn't answer. All I could do is think of where our kids were, what they were doing, if they were okay. Once again the room was silent until Joe spoke up, "Hey Dolly, I know there's some serious shit going on right now, but we gotta go out there for soundcheck. The show starts soon." Before I could speak up Colson answered him, "There is no show tonight. We need to find our kids." I pushed myself out of his arms and got up, wiping away the tears in my eyes. "No, it's okay, you guys find the kids and we'll do soundcheck, if they aren't here by time we're done then I will cancel the show." He went to argue with me, but I put my hand up, stopping him before he started. "That's the plan babe, I'm not changing my mind, plus it'll be good for me to keep myself busy, because if I don't I'm gonna hunt this person down and you don't want to see me like that. Just find our kids, please." He got up and walked to me slowly before wrapping me in his arms. "Okay babe, I love you." "I love you too Colson." He kissed me hard on the lips before letting go, once I started walking away I turned around to see him demanding orders to the guys and calling someone on his phone.

After our soundcheck was over I ran backstage and into the room I left Colson in. Before I went inside someone grabbed my arm and pulled me to the side, "What the fuck! Get off me!" I screamed as loud as I could and started swinging. "Tenley chill the fuck out, man! It's me!" I looked up to see Dub at my side. "What's going on? Why won't you let me go in?" I asked, I was starting to get pissed off, "And let go of my arm! Where's Colson? Where are my kids?!!" He grabbed onto me with his other hand and shook me. "Ten you need to calm down before you go in there.. something bad happened.." I could feel my heart drop into my stomach, 'something happened to the kids' "I need to get in there now." I shoved as hard as I could against him, Dub let go and fell into the wall, "I'm sorry!" I yelled as I burst through the doors, what I saw horrified me. When I first opened the door I saw Ashleigh sitting on the couch with her back to me, her sweater balled up on the floor and her shirt ripped. Once I opened the door all the way I saw Slim touching her face with cotton balls and Colson on the other side of the room, on the floor, with both kids in his lap. Hunter looked up at me and I could see the tears streaming down his face. All sound left me. I could hear nothing, but my own heartbeat. I ran to the kids and picked them up off of Colson and just held them. I don't know what happened, but I knew it was something bad. I looked over to Ash and saw nothing but blood. Finally the world came back to me, and I was in full mother hen mode. "What the fuck happened?!" I looked to Slim and then Colson, setting the kids back down in his lap and in one swift motion, moving Slim out of the way and taking over cleaning Ash up. Everyone was silent. "Okay, I'm going to ask again, except this time someone is going to answer me, WHAT. THE. FUCK. HAPPENED." Colson finally looked over to the couch where Ashleigh and I were, "Ash, you need to tell her, she's going to find out eventually." I switched back over to her, this time being more careful with my words, "Ash, Hun, look at me... What happened? Who did this to you?" She started sobbing uncontrollably, "I-I don't know, I didn't see his face.." Out of the corner of my I saw Slim shake his head in disapproval. I had a pretty good feeling that she was lying, but I decided that I would work on getting that answer later. "Oookaaayyy... Well, what happened then?" She was quiet for a little bit longer, before she started to talk she looked up at me, her eyes met mine and all I saw was a shattered woman. "Okay, well I was at the store with the kids when you called, we were picking up some snacks and some things for them and I noticed a guy following us.. I kept them close and told them not to let go of me. After a while I thought I had lost him, or maybe I was just overthinking it, maybe he wanted something that I was by or whatever, so I didn't freak out over you saying we weren't safe, but when we left the store I heard a guys voice call my name, when I turned around it was the same man, he was wearing a beanie and had sunglasses on, so I couldn't see who it was, but his voice sounded familiar.. I obviously ignored him, I grabbed the kids and walked faster to the car, but he kept yelling for me and telling me to come here. I got the kids in the car and as soon as I shut the door I heard him behind me.." She stopped and starred off into space. I gave her all the time I could, but my patience was wearing thin and I needed to know what happened to my friend and to my children. "Ashleigh, I need answers, please talk to me." She nodded at me before continuing, "He was right behind me Ten.. He grabbed me by my hair and threw me to the ground, I saw him trying to walk over me to get to the door so I kicked him as hard as I could and pressed the lock button on the keys.. He saw me do that so he jumped on top of me to get them out of my hand, he was pulling at my shirt and ripped it.. So I threw the keys under the car.." She started to cry again. "He punched me in the face, kicked me, slammed my head into the cement.. He flipped me onto my stomach, took a handful of my hair, leaned into my ear and told me it was a mistake to ignore him and that this would've gone a lot easier if I had came when he called.. He kept ramming my head into the ground until someone yelled for him to get off.. I don't know who it was, but they scared him away.. I couldn't see anything Ten. I thought he made me go blind or something, everything was blurry, but the person who scared him off came to me and held me.. when my phone rang he answered and told whoever it was where we were.. I'm guessing it was Colson.. When the guys showed up I was starting to be able to see again, the guy told them what he saw and that he made sure that no one came near us and that the kids were okay.. Well as okay as they could be while being locked in a car and seeing what they did.. I-I can't remember who got the keys and my stuff, but we were able to get here in the car.. Tenley I'm so so sorry. I swear the kids didn't get hurt. Please.. I'm.. I'm sorry.." She went from crying to completely falling apart at the seems. I cleaned her up as best as I could and tried to calm her down. After twenty minutes or so of that she relaxed enough to lay down, but refused sleep. "Hey Joe, will you stay with her and the kids please?" He nodded swiftly and moved to her side, Colson picked the kids up, Casie in one arm and Hunter in the other and put them in his lap, "Colson, Slim, Rook. Outside please." Was all I said before walking out the door.
