Andrea Russett

I was woken back up at 11:32 AM by my sister, Anna.

"Rise and shine," she smiled, "we're all ready to eat. Kian even went grocery shopping before he got the waffles. He's a good guy, he's smart. Husband material, even!"

I groaned as I sat up slowly in my bed, then looked Anna. My eyes were barely open, but I could see it in her eyes, she was trying to hit something to me.

"What?" She questioned once she realized that I was studying her face, trying to figure out what was going on.

"Nothing," I mumbled, "just repeat what you said."

"I said Kian went grocery shopping before he went to Waffle House."

"Is that all?" I tried to get her to say what she had said before, just so I could try to understand it.

Anna nodded, "I'm going to get the kitchen table set up. Get up, meet us in the kitchen."

She left me alone in the room, so I simply put on a large sweater and some leggings, then walked into the kitchen to be greeted by my parents, Anna, and Kian.

"Good morning princess," Kian kissed my forehead, "Waffle House waffle?"

I sighed and walked over to the table as Kian laid a plate in front of me, with a waffle from Waffle House laying on top. He handed me the Aunt Jemima syrup and I poured it onto my waffle. The rest of them copied my actions, putting syrup onto their waffles.

"Shall we say the blessing?" Anna asked.

It was too late though, we were already eating our waffles.

"Guess not," she mumbled.

We ate in silence.

Our of nowhere, Kian stood up and walked into the kitchen, calling over Anna.

Anna got up awkwardly, looked at me, then walked into the kitchen.

They whispered suspiciously and then looked over at me, with a look of pity.

I looked down, trying to ignore them. Then, I decided to excuse myself from the table. I went into my bedroom and locked myself in, trying to breathe by myself.

My words were muffled as I started to cry.

And it was like, one thought brought up so many buried thoughts, until I was the one being buried.
