"Did you miss me enough to drink, or did you drink enough to miss me?"

Kian Lawley

Jc was off flirting with some random girl he had met just a few minutes ago, while I leaned up against the bar, talking to the barista.

"Would you like to try our brand new--"

I stopped her before she could continue whatever it was that she was saying, "no."

She frowned and turned around and grabbed a bottle anyways. She filled up a shot glass and set it in front of me, "here you go, you look like you need it. On the house, my treat."

I looked into her eyes, then down at the bubbly drink in front of me, "you sure?"

She nodded, "free drink, in exchange for a conversation. Please? Rarely do I ever get a normal conversation here at work."

I chuckled, "you want a conversation? Alright, what's there to talk about?"

"Tell me why you look so down."

I chuckled again, then took a shot, "keep them coming, and I'll have a heart-to-heart conversation with you."

She smiled, "you've got yourself a deal."

"I had dated this girl. Hm, let's call her Diane. Well Diane and I dated for over a year, then broke up for over a year. We got back together, it was amazing. We were happy. Well, one night, we got into a wreck and let's just say, Diane is not here anymore. After a while, I met someone else."

As I told her the story, she continued to give me more to drink.

"Me and the new girl, let's call her Merida. We're okay, I guess? She likes me, and I like her. But I'm still in love with Diane. I don't know what to do though. It's like my heart won't let her go, no matter how hard I try. Merida and I have dated for a little while now, and I recently started to actually like her, versus date her for pure pity. I'm into her, but I'm still missing Diane."

The barista nodded, "that makes sense. I'm sorry for your loss."

I didn't say anything.

"If it helps, my boyfriend of two years and I recently broke up because he cheated on me. It doesn't compare to what you're going through, but I don't know. I thought it would help at first, but it doesn't."

I shrugged, my vision already becoming blurry as I continued to take shots.

"It's going to work out in the end. I can assure you that."

Once again, I shrugged and slumped against the counter. "I know Diane is gone, but she's still here, in ways. I mean, I don't know. I wish she was here right now. I miss her, I love her."

The girl nodded slowly, "hey, my name is Haliegh, if you must know."

"Kian," I told her.

"So, Kian, what I think is that you should just do what your heart wants."

My head shook, "my heart doesn't know what I want. My brain doesn't either."

She nodded slowly.

"Diane is the love of my life, but she's gone."

Haliegh took a deep breath, "and what do you wish?"

I thought for a moment, "I wish me and Merida were good friends, and Diane was here to be with me. You know?"

"And if you could say anything to Diane, what would you say?"

My hands shook and my words slurred together, "I'd tell her I love her."

Haliegh sighed, "you're drunk."

I chuckled, "you offered me a drink!"

"One."

I groaned, "and it was all on the house, so of course I took advantage," I slurred.

Haliegh nodded, "true."

My head spun and I groaned in pain.

"Let me take you home," she looked at her watch, "my shift is over in a few minutes, two to be exact."

I laughed, "two!"

She raised an eyebrow at my drunk self, "okay. Do you have a car here?"

"Nah," I grinned stupidly, "we came in an uber."

"We?"

I nodded and pointed over at Jc who was flirting with another girl, "him."

"Oh." Haliegh nodded, "I can give you two a ride home."

"Thank you," I walked over to Jc awkwardly, "Jason, we can go home and that girl will give us a ride."

"I thought my name was Jc," Jc laughed and hugged me, "my name is now Jason!"

We stumbled over to Haliegh and she led us out to the parking lot, where her car was. We both got into the backseat and handed her Jc's phone, so that she could get our address, since we couldn't completely remember it.

Once she had it, she drove us home. She left, after she dropped us off. The two of us stumbled inside. I went straight into my room and sat on my bed. I dialed Andrea's phone number.

"Hi, you've reached Andrea. You know what to do."

I groaned and threw my phone across the room. I crawled under my covers and screamed, then fell asleep.
