after a very long while of sans holding you in the hug, you pulled back and looked into his black eye sockets with the white pinpricks that still flowed with worry, care, and not surprisingly confusion
"y/n, can you tell me what happened?" you bit your lip, and nodded, closing your e/c eyes, facing your head down to the dark blue grass
you did owe it to him, you pinned him to the freaking wall for heaven's sake! but you couldn't stop your hesitation since you had promised yourself that you wouldn't tell anybody about your add-ons
taking a deep breath you said "i'm a cowl"
you opened your eyes and looked at sans, who looked even more confused so you added
"It's what i call myself since i'm not that normal" to emphasize your point, you touched your crystal and lowered your cover, letting your ears, tail, and wings poke out, your tail curled across your legs, that were crisscross, and you twirled a strand of f/c through your fingers and let it loose, allowing it to go behind your right ear and form a small, glowing, flower
sans stared at the flower mesmerized, you folded your hands and placed them in your lap, looking once again at the blue grass, finally sans spoke
"y/n, why do you hide it?" you looked up at him and grinned sadly "that's a long story" sans didn't look like he cared
instead, he sat similarly to you and folded his arms, sighing, you began
"Well, once upon a time, when it was just me, the muskets, my mother, and-" you paused, already dreading your words "my father, it was quite a simple life, though my father's job didn't pay very well, so he had to go to back to college, though when he got his final score, he had the highest out of all others and was offered a job as an inventor for his 'well-nurtured mind'" you said the last part sarcastically, and you noticed sans was strangely silent and continued, a bit of blush entering your cheeks, as he looked at you
who can forget that you just found out that you loved a skeleton?
"the gist of it was the government would give him an idea, and he would make it a reality, the problem was, by doing the projects we wouldn't see him for months at a time" you closed your eyes getting mentally ready for what you about to say next, your biggest secret. and you were sharing it with your new-found crush, still having your eyes closed you continued
"and because we didn't see him for months, we set up a meal chart, where me, Elijah, agrian, and rose would walk to his lab building thingy and give him the breakfast, lunch, and dinner, we had for the day, the part where it gets interesting is one day when it was my turn to take dinner to my so-called father....." you trail off, memories filling your head of that day, another tear made its way out of your closed eyes and trailed down your face. you remained strong, not letting your emotions get to you now
"when i placed the container filled with some slices of home-cooked pizza had for dinner i had wondered what he was doing in there...what kind of invention he was making, so, i climbed the metal box meant for trapping rats and such and peered into the little window that was the only source of natural light inside, what i saw was horrific, cages upon cages filled with different animals lined the walls-" you were cut off by the overflow of hatred that started to leak into your speech
you let go of a shaky angry breath as you tried to regain your composure, you could feel sans looking at you with slight worry. taking a deep breath you once again continued
"after i had seen this i ran back to my house and went to bed, but i set my alarm clock to wake me up before dawn the next day cause i wanted to save all of those animals, and i stupidly thought that my father would have left by then" you scowled at yourself, part of your past stupidity, part of your anger of what had happened next
"when i had gone to his shack, i found the door unlocked and thought myself lucky, when i entered i went to a couple of cages near the door, intending to free them first, because it was dark i didn't know what kind of animals i trying to let loose...that's when i heard his voice.
'y/n?' he asked me and i turned to him in fear, i remember his face so vividly. a mixture of disappointment, anger, and betrayal, he was standing next to the table in the far corner near the door, and he made his way toward me. on the way to me with his angered steps, he tripped a taut wire and turned over one of his inventions to its side. it was turned on and a bright beam of light shone on me"
you weren't aware of sans being there anymore, the memories flood into your head, the memories you tried to push away for so long, they seemed to override any other thought and you could only describe them, even though you didn't remember why at the time
"When the bright beam was showing on me i couldn't look away, but from the corner of my eyes, i saw the animals inside of the cages, one an owl, the other a cat. the next thing i know....i'm in my bed with what you see now" when you finished you opened your eyes to find your crystal glowing with the f/c and indigo swirls, you shut your eyes again and hugged yourself
"as to my magick, i don't know how it happened but one second i'm playing with my necklace and the next i'm trying to control wild attacks flying at my head" your lips twitched a tiny bit at the memory, you felt a pair of hands touch your arms and open your eyes to find two skeletal hands detach your hands from your sides and hold them, they feel hard, yet soft at the same time, not to mention warm, which is another thing that confuses you but you ignore it
you looked up at sans who is looking at you with softened eyes, his ever-lasting smile a bit more genuine
"Why do you hide them?" you sighed and explained further
"i haven't been able to practice with my magick, i don't know what i can do, and i don't want to be a threat to Elijah, Agrian, or Rose, under any circumstances, so i hide them. i put them away so that i won't be a threat" your voice began cracking when you said your siblings' names, and you didn't notice tears going down your face again until sans let go one of your hands to wipe some away
though he couldn't really help that much, but that makes sense, he's a skeleton "y/n, you shouldn't hold this all to yourself" you chuckled through your tears, a shaky smile making its way to your mouth
"i-it's not really to myself, my siblings, and best friend know, same with chara and your dad" sans didn't seem convinced, even if he was surprised at the number of people that did know
"y/n, you haven't told any of our other friends, were you planning on it?" you closed your eyes slowly shaking your head 'no' yeah, you've thought about it, but you would never really go through with any plan your mind would come up with
you were pulled into another hug and gratefully accepted it, lightly putting your head to sans' shoulder "well, you don't have to go through any of this alone, and to me, it seems that you need as much help as you can get, even though you have all of those people, you don't feel like you can talk to them...right?" you stiffened slightly at sans' words, how did he know?
nodding a bit he continued "well...i'm here for you, and i think i can help. if you want it" you pulled out of the hug and faced him with wide f/c eyes, "y-you would do that?" sans smiled more than usual and shrugged
"Yeah, that is, if you want-" you cut him off "yes! i-i would love that, but just how can you?" sans chuckled and took the hand with the cast
"like this" suddenly the trail of f/c that was the small flower behind your ear covered your eyes filling them with f/c and you felt weightless for a second, and when the trail of f/c drew away from your eyes you were in a completely different place. golden light drowning you in its beams
