Silence And Sound

Chapter 13.

Alex' POV:

"Why is she talking to Zayn?" I whispered.

"Did you tell her what he did to you?" Niall asked. I shook my head. I didn't want anyone to know. They would just start rumors. 

"Maybe you should. I mean, look at them. It looks like Zayn is trying to impress her or something. Maybe she needs a warning before it's too late" Niall said. He was probably right. But maybe she needed to get her thoughts off Niall for a while. I realized we were staring at them, because suddenly they both looked up and Debby waved at me. I gave her an awkward nod and dragged Niall with me inside. 

"Hey Niall, how was your weeke- Oh hey.. Alex" a voice said when we entered the classroom. I looked at the person who clearly wasn't happy about my presence. It was Liam. He was sitting next to Harry and they both looked at me like I was a ghost. They weren't used to seeing me around Niall, or anyone else for that matter.

"Hey Liam, good to see you too" I said with a sarcastic voice. Niall and I sat down at the table they were sitting at. 

"How did you get to know each other?" Harry asked confused.

"We partied together last weekend" Niall said. 

"Why do you even care?" I huffed. Harry looked down at the table, Liam looked away like he pretended I wasn't there, and Niall just shot me a disappointed glare. He probably expected I was gonna be all friendly around people now. 

"Hey Alex" I suddenly heard Debby say behind me. I left the boys at the table and walked over to her.

"Why are you talking to Zayn?" I asked.

"What? Oh, that. He just came over and asked about some math homework that he needed help for. And then I said I could help him, and he said we could do it at his house. But I heard he's kind of a player, so I told him that I'm not gonna sleep with him, if that's what he thinks. And he said it wasn't that all, so he asked me out for dinner tonight. Isn't he cute?" Debby whined. 

"Very cute" I mumbled. Why was he asking her out for dinner? And why did she believe that his intentions were so fucking good?! Damn it Debby, I thought you were smarter.

"And by the way, I'm done with Niall. He's all yours" she said. Wait, what? All mine? 

"What do you mean?" I asked. It wasn't because she said it in a mean way, it was just like it was a piece of information that I needed.

"I saw the two of you at my party. It's obvious that you like him. And it's okay, I didn't even like him that much" 

"What?" - I was so confused. Saw us? We didn't even kiss or anything?

"I'm moving on. That's why I agreed to go on a date with Zayn. I think Niall is way better for you. And you look really cute together, so -"

"Wait, stop right there. Me and Niall are not dating okay? And we're not cute together, okay? And I don't like him, okay?" I laughed. 

"I just thought you did. That's why I cancelled last night. I wanted you to be with him alone. And when I saw you together this morning I thought it was because you had slept together or something" she said. I laughed. No way. That would never happen! Niall and I were so different. We would be a horrible couple! I mean, yes we held hands yesterday. Twice. And yes he begged me to stay with him for the night. And yes we fought. And yes suddenly I begged him not to leave me. And yes we slept in the same bed and I woke up with his arms around me. But that didn't mean we could ever be a couple!

"That's very sweet of you Debs, but we would be a horrible couple! Really horrible" I laughed. Why did I just call her Debs?

"Miss Hamber. If you could stop talking now it would be nice. Maybe we could continue our lesson then" Mr. Palvis said and looked at me. I didn't even notice that the lesson had started.
