Chapter One

(PICT. OF SAMANTHA >>)

This story is in a different layout. It's first person when it's in the main character's (Sam's) Pov, and second person when it's in someone elses pov :)

8 years later...

"You concentrate on work way too much!" Cassidy exclaimed. I rolled my eyes and shrugged my coat off, feeling tired and worn out.

"And you concentrate on partying too much." I retorted to my roommate, bored of always arguing about the same subject. I pulled my hair out of the usual tight ponytail and flung it all out. It toppled down my shoulders and rested just below my breasts. I turned around and walked towards the kitchen to grab myself a snack, knowing that it was the only way to cut off the banter.

"Well, how about this, go out with me and the girls tonight and I'll go to that interview you've been bugging me about." she suggested. My ears perked up and I swiveled around on my toes, facing her. I narrowed my eyes curiously at her, trying to catch her bluff. But she stayed strong, giving me a small smile and her blue eyes sparkled with anticipation.

"Fine! But remember, I don't drink, so don't shove any alcohol in my face!" I reminded pointedly, grabbing a croissant from the fridge and walking off to my room.

"Yes! Oh god, Sam, you'll have so much fun!" She yelled to my back. I flipped her the finger over my shoulder and shut my door, laughing at her enthusiasm. The truth is, I think going out tonight would be healthy for me, and take my mind off the one thing that had been itching my brain all day.

Today was Kyan's birthday.

Honestly, there was nothing I could do about it, but the thought of another year going by without seeing him, it hurt a lot more than I care to admit. I stripped out of my clothes and stepped into the bath, hoping to rid my tense muscles. It's been eight years since he's left, and I haven't heard as much as a peep about him since he was gone.

Mrs Johnson sure wasn't kidding when she said she was erasing the past.

To this day, my heart still does a painful jolt in my chest when I think about Kyan. About the 'gift' he's left me with. I sighed and let myself soak in the bubbles, closing my eyes and inhaling the scent of rose. I gasped awake when I heard a ringing and darted my head around to locate it. It could be a call from my boss, about a promotion.

After a while I realised the ringing was coming from outside the bathroom. Grumbling, I tiptoed out of the bath, trying to minimize the amount of bubbles trailed off my body and wet the tiled floor. Grabbing my dry towel, I wrapped it around my torso and came out to my bedroom. My phone laid on the table beside the bed. My heart jumped when I realised, that in fact, it was a call from my boss.

"Hello?" I answered, trying to sound alive, not like I'd fallen asleep in a hot bubble bath.

"Samantha Holland?" The croaky voice of my boss said. I nodded, but quickly realising he couldn't see me, I answered.

"Speaking."

"We are calling to inform you about your business p-" I squealed, knowing what would finish the sentence. I felt like I'd finally fulfilled a long-time dream.

"Mr Williams," I addressed him, "I am very honoured that you would something so wonderful for me! I can't thank you enough!"

"Ms Holland, I don't think we're on the same page?" He said, sounding very puzzled. My heart stopped.

What else started with the letter P other than promotion??

"Ms Holland, are you still there?"
