~Yasmin's P.O.V~
I forced myself out of bed that morning. I dreaded seeing Shane but at the same time I was looking forward to it. How was I going to be able to ignore him now? I found it hard when I still liked Luke. I really felt bad for the way I had to treat him but if I don't I'll lose my family. Whatever the circumstances I don't regret ever meeting him. But I owe it him to explain why I'm giving him the cold shoulder, perhaps sometime today.
I quickly got ready for school and made my brother breakfast. I guess I was in a mood to get things done today. I left the house and went to go meet Aisha. After last night my brother truly backed off for now at least. I walked down to school with Aisha and headed to form. I sat down in my usual seat waiting for everyone else. Sasha sat down and asked if I was alright. I smiled and told her I'll tell her everything at some point today.
Just then the door opened and I watched Shane walk past me and sit next to Adam totally blocking me out. I guess I deserved it after the way I treated him yesterday. Sasha did her best to distract me.
By the time the bell rang for English Shane had already left. In English I sat next to Sasha, it didn't help that Shane now sat in front on me on the next table over. Exams are now coming up so we spent the whole lesson preparing for that. I didn't get a single chance to speak to him. By now I was getting changed for gym class.
The boys and girls were all playing dodge ball in the hall and I hated every second of it. I stayed in the middle mostly dodging the balls. At some point Ryan tried to get me out and by some miracle I accidentally got him out. I somehow managed to catch the ball between my legs. The boys always play too rough and my head was spinning. No matter how hard I tried to get away from Shane he'd somehow show up opposite me. At some point he had the ball and kept throwing it at me or make me think he was. I got fed up and took the ball from his hands. "Hey that's not fair you can't do that!" He cried.
I threw it at his head since I knew he'd still be in. "That's for messing with me!" I glared at him. Everyone else started laughing. One of the boys was going to throw a ball but Shane pulled me out the way.
"Traitor!" I heard the boys glare at him playfully. I was surprised and moved to the back. I was still red and ignoring everyone's looks. Each time I looked over at Shane his eyes were on me so I'd quickly look away. At some point it was me and Becky left on the girl's side, Jason, Aaron and Shane were left on the boy's side.
I really didn't want to be there. I looked over at my friends then to Sir. "Sir can I please swap with one of the girls?" I begged doing my best to dodge the balls. Some of the popular girls were trying to convince Sir too.
"Why?" Sir asked.
"Please let me swap with Jessica, the boys are winning anyway. Please Sir." I begged after a while he reluctantly agreed. And I sighed in relief, the boys however weren't very happy. Just before I swapped a ball whizzed past. I turned to see who it was and looked at Jason. He looked amused but pointed at Shane, I saw him look the other way with a smile on his lips. The girls lost this round but we won the next.
After gym class Aisha and I were talking in the toilets again. The door opened and Sasha joined us. That's when I told her what happened on the weekend and why I kept to myself yesterday. She hugged me and told me she'd always be there for me. I smiled and eventually we went to go find Ben. On the way I saw Shane with Jason outside and I saw Emma standing around him. I turned my back to them but watched then through the reflection on the glass. I watched her try to flirt with him and it hurt but I made my choice. I have to admit I felt a little jealous.
"What are you staring at?" Ben asked. Everyone went quiet. "Is that Emma with Shane?" He said wearily. I didn't say anything. Just then I saw something happen, Shane looked annoyed and Emma walked away fuming.
"Looks like someone's been rejected." Aisha laughed. "Come on you know you want to smile." She teased me. I tried to hide it but I couldn't. After that I was in a good mood. The bell rang and we had maths. I sat by Ateek.
"I saw Emma talking to you." I heard Nathan say to Shane. I knew he was trying to get my attention. I carried on with the work. "What did she want?" He asked. I heard Shane turn around.
"It's Emma; do you really have to ask?" Shane replied. I could hear the amusement in his voice and could feel his eyes on me.
"What did you say to her?" Nathan asked also amused. They knew I was listening.
"That I wasn't interested." He replied. I tried my best not to listen but truth was I wanted to hear him say it. After that I tuned their conversation out. In science the boys sat on one side and the girls on the other. Becky kept me distracted though out and eventually we went home. I never got to talk to Shane.
Days passed and we drifted further away. I would see him in lesson or in the corridor but that is all it was. Just a glace but then I'd look away. I noticed each time we crossed paths I was the one who always looked away first. At times I would try to avoid him but then I'd also go out of my way to see him. Sometimes we'd talk in class but that was very rare, those were the moments I most looked forward to no matter how short. In those moments we could forget the world around us and just enjoy each other's company. After school I noticed sometimes he'd wait with Jason or I'd wait to see him before I leave.
