~Yasmin's P.O.V~
Exams where around the corner and everyone, well most were on edge. The others just didn't care or knew they were going to pass. I, on the other hand was all three. I was currently in Maths doing mock tests but I kept getting distracted. I was meant to be in ICT but the lessons had been moved around, although I was glad I was still going to Art. Anyway in Maths Jason and Shane kept talking and laughing. Shane was in front of me so I kicked his chair. "What?" He asked turning around.
"Don't ask me what, you should be studying." I said not looking up.
"Spoil sport." Jason grumbled.
"You'll thank me for it later." After that they shut up and I got on with my work. It was break time now and I walked down to Aisha's class waiting for her. My class got let out 15 minutes early. I decided to sit down and wait for her when someone sat next to me. "What do you want?" I asked looking down the hall to make sure no one was around.
"I was wondering if we can meet up and you can help me study for Maths and I can help you with Science." Shane asked.
"Can't you ask Jason? Besides what makes you think I need help in Science?" I asked him, avoiding his eyes.
"I know you, you can't just wing it." He remarked, frowning at me.
"Maybe I can." I said quietly. He stood up and offered me his hand. I took it and he helped me up.
"Think about it please? Exams are next week and I really could use the help." He asked locking eyes with me and gave me a weary smile. I felt my heart beat quicken. Before I could reply the doors opened and I let go of his hand. Wow his hand felt perfect in mine, I shook my head to clear my thoughts and saw Aisha; I waved at her. I looked back and saw he was still stood there looking at me but one of the guys caught his attention. By now Sasha was walking with us.
"What did he want?" Sasha smirked.
"Who?" Aisha asked.
"Shane." I said awkwardly.
"What does he want?" She asked slowing down.
"He wants me to help him with Maths and he said he'll help me with Science." I said. Sasha smirked at me.
"You said no right?" Aisha asked, I didn't say anything. "Yasmin-"
"I was thinking maybe we could go to one of the interventions. We won't be alone and you can come too." I ventured.
"Fine but only because I need to catch up on work." I smiled and thanked her. "You really do like him don't you?" She smiled knowingly.
"Yes and after the exams I don't know if I'll see him again." I said sadly. We met up with the others and talked but my mind kept wondering over to Shane.
"Stop it." Aisha said looking at me, pulling me back to reality. I had everyone's attention. "I know you're thinking about him again." She said concerned.
"Guilty." I tried to smile.
"Remember what happened a few weeks ago or should I remind you?" Aisha said concerned.
"I remember." I said sadly. Just then I saw Shane walking down with Jason, they walked over to us. He was going to sit next to me but Aisha glared at him. He stood for a second but then sat next to me anyway.
"So did you think about it?" He asked looking at me.
"In one of the classrooms after school they hold interventions sessions. We can go to that." I said looking up at him.
"Sure. I'll wait outside your class." He smiled wearily after a while.
"We'll meet you there; it'll be in your Enterprise class." I looked at Aisha.
"Right, ok I'll meet you there." He said getting up. I watched him walk away.
"Maybe this is a bad idea." I said quietly.
"You were able to talk to him before." Ben said.
"Something's changed this time." I looked out the window. The bell rang and lessons were back to normal. I headed to Art with Ben.
"Watch were you're going!" Ben laughed. I looked up and moved just in time.
"Thanks." I smiled and walked into class.
"What's up with her?" I heard Tamara ask Hollie.
"My guess Shane." Hollie smirked.
"Why would it be about him?" I asked looking up.
"Well you guys were always together and I heard he asked you to help him study or meet up." She smirked.
"Right that's it. I'm not going, this was exactly what I was afraid of. Hold on a second how did you know?" I questioned looking at her.
"Everyone's talking about it; you could tell Emma is annoyed." Someone said.
"E-everyone?" I repeated looking around. "That's it I'm defiantly not going."
"What why?" They asked again.
"I don't want people to have the wrong idea about us, we're just friends. F.R.I.E.N.D.S." I turned back to my work and drowned out all the noise. I concentrated on my work. At some point Rachel had to tap me on the shoulder to get my attention. I looked up and saw my cousin at the door. I waved at her as she walked past. Just then the bell rang for lunch. I was trying to decide if I wanted to stay or go out for lunch. In the end I decided to walk out with Ben and walk down to meet the others.
While walking down I saw Shane and knew I had to tell him. "I'll meet you guys in a sec; I just need to do something." I said to Ben, he could tell something was up but didn't say anything. I waited till he left then walked up to Shane and Jason who were in an empty corridor messing around. As soon as they saw me they stopped.
"Hey Yaz." Jason smiled. I smiled back and looked at Shane.
"What's up?" Shane asked a little concerned.
"About tonight I won't be coming." I started but before I could say anything else Aisha found me and dragged me off.
"She's not coming because you told her not to isn't it?" Shane yelled after us. "Yasmin can do what she wants-" I didn't hear the rest.
"What were you thinking? Your brother came looking for you; I told him you went to the bathroom." Aisha said as we walked back to the others.
"Thanks." I smiled sadly.
"Can I ask, what were you going to say to him?" She asked quietly.
"That I couldn't meet him anymore since everyone thinks there's something between us but there can never be. You know what happened last time my family thought along those lines and I don't want that again. I wish things were different." I said not meeting her eyes. "At times I can't help the way I feel about him and in a way I'm glad I fell in love with someone, but it also makes me feel bad because I know we can never be together. So it's best I just stick to seeing him in class and keeping my distance than hurting myself further."
"It's for the best, I'm sorry." She said and changed the subject when we got back to the others. I joined in the conversation here and there. And by the time the bell rang we headed back to lesson. I was too busy carving into my pot I didn't realise it was the end of the day till someone covered my eyes and said "guess who?"
"Sasha?" I smiled.
"How'd you know?" She asked confused.
"I recognized your voice." I laughed. I quickly tidied up and walked home with Aisha but on the way back I kept feeling bad about bailing on Shane. At least he knew I wasn't going to go.
When I got home my sister made sure I studied, literally every 30 minutes she'd send her kids in to check. To be fair I wouldn't have studied otherwise. I kept getting calls from an unknown number, I had to turn my phone off because it was too distracting but even then I was too distracted. All I wanted to do was answer the call. I managed to distract my mind long enough to focus on revising but when I lay in bed it was a nightmare I had to force myself to sleep since Shane was still on my mind. It was around midnight when I finally fell asleep.
