My prayers got answered one day. It was on a hot Saturday, when Sara, Mariah and I were in the living room watching tv. Then I saw the small gate open and then my dad walked in. He was talking with the gateman.
I didn't know when Mariah sprinted out of the house and jumped into his arms. We followed outside and I also went to hug him.
"Daddy we've missed you" Mariah spoke. Dad smiled at her
"I've missed you all so much too" He replied
"Are you coming back to take us home today?"
"Erm, Mariah. Where is your mother?"
"She's upstairs"
"I'm going to talk to her. Then when we finish talking we can go back home"
We walked him inside, where he sat at the living room. He sent me to go fetch mom while Mariah stayed with him and as I walked I felt a hand pull me back. How did I not realise how silent Sara was the whole time.
"What is the problem?" I said with concern.
"You're going back home today." She said silently. She was about to cry. I felt concerned but was she thinking we were gonna stay here forever. I felt irritated, like it's not even that deep. We all have our lives to live sister girl.
I felt even more sorry that I thought that way. God forgive me.
"I don't know if we're going today"
"Then why is he here?" She asked. This time the tears spilled. Not trying to be hurt but seriously the crying was getting on my nerves.
"Maybe he wants to tell mum something. Stop crying. It's not live we're leaving the surface or the earth or something"
Feeling the hurt of those words I quickly left before the look on her face would make me feel worse.
Mum was reading a magazine when I walked in. She looked up at me.
"Daddy wants to talk to you" I said quickly. I saw the anger on her face.
"This children you will not kill me! You won't kill me! Who went to call him again? Can't you listen to simple instructions?" She yelled
"No mummy he came to the house. Just now. Nobody called him"
"Oh. Well then where is he"
"In the living room"
She followed me down to the living room and as she looked at him I recognised that look. Like something crashing again.
God, I whispered. Please let mummy talk to daddy again.
"What do you want? What are you looking for again?"
Dad looked up at her. "Please. Not in front of the children-"
"What do you mean?" She laughed mockingly. "Oh, you think they don't know?"
Dad didn't reply.
"There you have it. There's exactly nothing to talk about. Now, get out. Leave this place now!"
As she stood by the door after he left, she yelled to the gateman
"Allow that man to step foot in this house again and I can assure you of your joblessness"
Yes he didn't return. And few days I heard mum discuss something with grandma when she visited.
"I want a divorce. I want to forgive him but every time I see him that image is always there. To laugh at me"
