By two weeks now, everyone had known about the engagement and upcoming wedding. My head has not been really thinking about a wedding, but my phone kept going off, people calling to congratulate me.

When Mariah came to my house one morning, I just knew that they had crossed the line. I wanted to be angry, but I couldn't because they were just genuinely happy, and I wouldn't let my sour mood ruin that. We went for a late breakfast at Bills. Their food was great, and when I started going there I never stopped.

Mariah took a sip of her orange juice. Ever since we'd grown together, Mariah hated tea , she couldn't stand it, and sometimes just to torture her I used to force her to take it. I never understood why anyone would hate tea.

"You know, the last time I went to Nigeria for Christmas in December, mum was complaining bitterly" She said.

I looked up. "Why?"

"You know that was when Tobe came to see my parents, mum was now begging me to come and tell you to find a man or she would help you find one. I laughed and told her to calm down. I told her that you're still a babe" She said while laughing.

"Funny enough, It was two months since Jacob and I had started dating"

I remembered when I called her about my engagement.
She had screamed and started singing 'Come and join me sing hallelujah, Jehovah Jire has done me well'
I had walked around my office, phone in my ear,  waiting for her to stop singing so that I can continue what I was saying.

"Just when I thought that my daughter would never get married"

I laughed at that point. "Mummy, you need to calm down. I'm not that old even"

"Abegi. You are old enough. Isn't Mariah the first to get a boyfriend. I forbade that her boyfriend would propose to her before you. What is the meaning of that?"

"We thank God" I said , heaving a sigh. "At least, we've all gotten what we want"

"What does he even do again?"

"He's a doctor. An eye doctor"

"Hope he's a Christian oh? You know the devil doesn't show his real face"

"Mummy, I know. He's a true Christian. He even plays the saxophone in my church"

"Ah, it's not about playing instruments my dear. It's more than that"

"Yes, I know" I said politely, and bade her goodbye before she prodded me with more questions.

Mariah brought me out of my thoughts.
"So how are you guys planning the wedding?"

"I'd like for it to be in December" I thought. It was a nice month to get married.

"Hmm. So you guys can do cuddling abi?" She smirked as I almost spat out my tea. What is this girls problem?

I'm sure if I was a few shades lighter I'd be bright red. "Mariah" I shrieked. "What sort of dirty suggestion?"

She shrugged. "Well. It is going to be cold. Snow everywhere and all"
