Brendon stood outside of the front door with a bottle of wine, while holding my hand and rubbing my thumb nervously.
"It'll be okay, I promise. There's not a lot they can do if they do remember your face, I'm not your student anymore and they can't force me to live with them forever."
He nodded but didn't say anything, before knocking on the door. A few seconds later, Pete answered and froze for a second.
Oh God, he recognized him.
"Hi, you must be Brendon. I'm Pete, come inside."
Maybe not...
Brendon greeted Pete and handed him the wine, before waving off the thanks. He gestured for me to walk inside first politely and followed after me, kissing my cheek. I blushed and slapped his arm lightly.
Patrick was sitting at the dining table, followed by Pete and eventually Brendon and I. There was a moment of awkward silence amongst us all, until I cleared my throat.
"So...what's cooking? It smells great." I asked.
"Fish bolognese." Pete answered.
It was awkward once again.
"What do you work as then, Brendon?" Patrick asked from across the table.
"Uh, I'm an English teacher, and hopefully soon a professor at Long Island."
Patrick and Pete shared a glance but Brendon pretended not to notice.
"That's how we met, actually. Scarlet was looking for an English tutor, so she found me online and so on and so forth."
"Yeah, so...how old are you?" Patrick asked quizzically.
"23."
"Right."
We ate and sat in silence, the only contact made between any of us was Brendon rubbing my thigh reassuringly every few minutes and short glances between Pete and Patrick.

"Well, it was great meeting you, Brendon." Pete said out of politeness as he exited the front door.
"Yeah you too. It was lovely to meet you and Patrick."
As Brendon got the car warmed up, Pete pulled me aside on the porch gently and whispered in my ear:
"You owe me big time for not reminding Patrick about the similarities between Brendon and your old English teacher."
