You and Danny Rand had been dating for at least 7 months; quite a long time. Recently though, he'd been distant. He wouldn't text you as much, he'd avoid you at school, look away when you would walk into the room. It was starting to make you sad, honestly.
But now you had bad news. Your father, the King of Ya'O Chun, had called for you, saying that it was time to come home. He said the time had come for you to marry into another kingdom, and to become Queen. Yes, you were a princess. No, you didn't want to go home. Who in their right minds would want to leave the awesome friends you had made during your time here in The Big Apple? But alas, your time had come. You steeled your nerves as you walked towards Danny's room. You stood in front of his door aboard the tricarrier, your fist raised, ready to knock. You stood at the ready, but you just couldn't bring yourself to knock, no matter how much you told yourself that you 'could do this.'
You probably stood there for a good 5 minutes, until out of nowhere his door opened! You panicked and put your knocking fist down at your side, your eyes flittering around nervously as he looked at you awkwardly from the other side of the door.
"H-hey Danny, I um-" you started, but were soon cut off by Danny, who thought he would be the first to speak. Which led to more awkwardness.
"What are you doi-" he began, then stopped to let you speak.
"Oh well no, you g-" you corrected yourself.
"Sorry, I-"
"You're okay, I just-"
"Go ahea-"
"I didn't meant t-" You stopped talking and closed your eyes, pinching the bridge of your nose like you were trying to prevent a headache. Danny chuckled and quietly said, "How about we start over, huh?"
"Sounds good," You looked up, smiling. "Okay, I just wanted to come over so I could...tell you something that..really needs to be said." His eyes widened, almost looking sad, and you instantly regretted even coming here in the first place. "Oh, but it's nothing bad, like, not about us or anything!" you quickly reassured him. He smiled again, but he still looked cautious.
"Come on in then," he offered, holding the door to his room open. "Have a seat." You got a few butterflies in your stomach; you had never actually been inside his quarters before. You sat on the edge of his huge king size bed, thinking all the while about how appropriate it was. A king size bed for the king with the king size heart.
He sat down beside you, making the bed dip in a little, in turn causing you to fall a little into him. He touched your shoulder reflexively, and you quickly righted yourself, a deep blush painting your cheeks. "S-sorry," you stammered.
Oh gosh I'm only making this worse! you thought to yourself. No, no, just stay calm, and everything will be okay. Okay.
"Alright, um Danny? This is...pretty serious, so..please don't..hate me.."
Danny's eyes changed from amusement at seeing you so flustered earlier to worry. "I could never hate you, (y/n)," he assured you. "No matter what the news is, I will never hate you."
You nodded, taking a deep breath, then blurting out, "I'm leaving first thing tomorrow morning!"
He looked a little baffled at this. "What, why?" he almost laughed. "Leaving to go where?"
You fiddled with your hoodie strings, avoiding Danny's gentle gaze. "Home."
One word was all it took. The floodgates opened, and Danny, Iron Fist himself, started to cry. He buried his face in his hands and rested his elbows on his knees, tears streaming down his face.
Alarms and bells were going off in your head; panic ensued. OH NOOO!!!! HE'S CRYING!!! WHAT DO I DO WHAT DO I DO WHATDOIDO!!!!!!! You kept screaming at yourself internally while you simply watched him cry, sitting there in shock with no doubt a dumb look plastered on your face.
You rubbed Danny's shoulder, hoping that would at least let him know that you cared. Or that you had no idea what else to do and the only other thing you had thought of would be to panda bear-hug him to death, but that might be awkward. You decided to just give it a shot and figure out why such a zen, manly man like him was shedding tears.
"What's wrong, sweetheart?" You gasped internally, wondering what in the world made you say that to him. You hadn't planned to say anything like that in your head; how come it came out just now?!
He looked up from his hands, gazing into your (e/c) eyes, his own red with tears and overflowing. "I'm so sorry," he choked out. "I'm so sorry I didn't tell you."
Your stomach dropped a little in anxiety. "Didn't tell me..what?"
"I'm leaving too. I'm going home tomorrow morning, first thing. I was just too scared to tell you, because I-I-I thought you were gonna hate me, a-and the worst part is-" his sentence was broken off by more tears.
Your face was so pale, and your stomach hurt with worry, you weren't sure your heart could take much more of this. "What? What is the worst part?" you prompted him, gently shaking his shoulder.
"I-I'm getting married!"
"What?"
"To a stranger princess!"
"What?!"
"I know!! I'm sorry, (y/n), I'm so sorry!!!" He cried harder, hugging your small frame. You gently caressed him back. This shouldn't make you feel this nervous, he had hugged you before. But the other times he'd hugged you, all you could notice were his muscles, his steady breathing, his handsome voice. Now all you felt were a frail body, broken by care. A weak voice, burdened by a load of agony. You could sense the sadness emanating from every part of his being, and it broke you as well.
You started to weep with him. Not because he was crying, or because he was moving away, or even that he was marrying someone totally random. You cried with him because you felt like him.
Broken.
