Chapter 6
"How was your weekend?" Oliver James asked as I sat down in my seat in English.
"Absolutely awful." I sighed. "How was yours?"
"Pretty uneventful. You look dead." Oliver laughed, raising his eyebrows at me.
I just shrugged. That's what happens when you don't get home to America until three in the morning and then are expected to go to school the next day.
"I had a weekend packed with family." I sighed. "Did I miss much in this class on Friday?"
"It was a work day." Oliver shrugged. "So basically I just sat and listened to music the whole time."
"Typical." I laughed. "Are we going to attempt to work on it today after school?"
"I've got practice until four, and both my brother and sister are sick so I don't think we should go over to my house..." Oliver sighed.
"Oh we can go to my house, my dad will just be working in his office." I smiled. "If you want to, after your practice."
"Yea absolutely. Do you mind waiting until after practice? I feel bad making you wait, but like, I know you don't drive..." Oliver said uncomfortably.
"Oh yea don't worry about it. I've got to go into Chemistry anyways to make up a test." I nodded. "I'll meet you by the pool doors at four?"
"Sounds like a plan." Oliver smiled, giving me a grin.
I couldn't help but feel excited at the flip in my stomach.

"So again, another hour wasted." I laughed, looking up at Oliver James.
"We've really got to get working on this... It's due next Friday and we have a lot to do..." Oliver laughed.
I nodded in agreement. "Okay, right now, we're going to come up with the four examples of symbolism. We already have two, it won't be that hard." I said, sitting up straight.
"Let's do it." Oliver nodded.
I looked down at the paper.
"We have The Sea and we have Birds." I said, looking at the paper.
"The ocean!" Oliver said excitedly.
"Good try but that's the same thing as the sea." I laughed, shaking my head.
"Dammit..." Oliver sighed.
"Children!" I exclaimed. "Oh my Gosh that ones perfect! Like the kids show how Edna hates being a mother figure! Like you're totally adorable with your little sister, meaning that you love kids and it's adorable as hell, but like, Edna always avoids kids if she can!"
Oliver raised his eyebrows at me.
"I'm adorable as hell?" Oliver laughed, a grin crossing his face.
I froze. I think I might've said that out loud.
"Uh, well yea kinda." I said awkwardly, looking down at the paper as I quickly wrote 'children' under the other two examples of symbolism.
"Well thanks. You're not too bad yourself." Oliver laughed, giving me a grin.
I couldn't help the smile that spread across my face.
"Okay now it's your turn." I said, looking up at him. "What's another example of symbolism?"
Oliver sighed. "I dunno... Well if you think children define me, what's something that defines you?"
