Chapter 13

I leaned against the wall outside of the football office while Oliver disappeared inside.

"OJ!" I heard the coach say happily. "What can I do for you?"

"Uh, I know it's totally last minute, but I can't come to practice today." Oliver said nervously. "My mom called me and I have to go pick up my siblings for school and do a ton of errands."

I heard the coach let out a long, unsure sigh.

"OJ, it's less than a week until our homecoming game and it's against the toughest team in the district. We can't afford a practice without our QB..." The coach said hesitantly.

"I know, trust me, I know. I wouldn't be asking if it wasn't extremely important." Oliver said seriously.

I felt a smile cross my face.

'Extremely important'.

I liked being called that.

"Alright, alright. But you better be there tomorrow. I don't care if you have to babysit again, you bring the kids to practice." The coach said with a slight laugh.

"Don't worry, I won't be needed tomorrow." Oliver said with a laugh as well. "Thank you sir."

"Anytime, OJ." The coach said.

The door opened again and Oliver walked out, a grin on his face.

"We're clear." He whispered to me, pressing his lips against mine. One hand was on my back and the other on the wall behind me.

"So what are we going to do with our afternoon of freedom?" I whispered excitedly, my hands twisting around the fabric of his shirt at his hips.

Oliver bit his lip, resting his forehead against mine.

"I have a few ideas." Oliver smirked, looking down at my lips. "But I have somewhere to show you."

"Hmm?" I raised my eyebrows, my nose brushing against his.

"Come on." Oliver said happily, grabbing my hand before pulling me behind him towards the parking lot.

"Where are you taking me?" I asked curiously as I followed behind him.

"It's a surprise." Oliver replied.

"Surprises are lame." I said with a giggle, wrapping my arms around his torso from behind.

"Not this one, trust me." Oliver laughed, resting his hands over mine.

I kissed the back of his shoulder.

"I hate surprises." I said softly, resting my forehead against his shoulder as he searched for his keys.

"Get in the car." Oliver said before pressing his lips to mine.

I felt a smile cross my face as I stepped around him so we were face to face.

"Seriously." Oliver laughed, making no attempt to step back from me. "Get in the car before someone tells coach they saw me making out with you in the parking lot."

"Scandalous." I giggled before running around to the passenger side of the truck.

"I've never skipped practice before, this feels so weird." Oliver shook his head as he started the engine.

"You've never skipped practice? Lame." I laughed as I buckled my seatbelt.

"No trust me, you don't know how hard the coaching staff go here. If they found out I was skipping to be with a girl, I'd be screwed." Oliver sighed, shaking his head.
