Wiping away my tears, I pull myself together. Getting up, I walk to the bathroom. Deciding to get ready, I follow through on my morning routine. Afterwards, I gather my things and take a look at myself in the mirror.
'I'll just have to take care of it myself. I can't let the others know. If something were to happen to them because of me...I'd never forgive myself.'
Choosing to skip breakfast simply because I don't feel like making it, I finally leave my place of rest. Taking in the fresh morning air, I exhale deeply before making my way to the hokage's office. A couple weeks ago my team and I took what Kakashi sensei calls the bell test.
The objective was to try and steal a bell from him before noon, and whoever didn't, would be sent back to the academy. Although I tried, I nor anyone else was able to claim one. Long story short, Naruto was tied up and we all learned that teamwork was crucial when accomplishing a task.
Even though I'm now an official genin, the so called "missions" we've been on are ridiculous. With all of the cat rescues, dog walks, cleaning and babysitting, I don't even feel like a real ninja. All I know is that I'm getting tired of all these boring missions, and I'm guessing Naruto is starting to feel the same way.
Entering the building, I walk into the hogake's office. To my surprise everyone is already there. Even Kakashi sensei is on time!
'That's new.'
I quickly take in the sight, realizing I'll probably never see Kakashi show up on time for anything else. The reason as to why is most likely because of our meeting with Hiruzen today. All eyes observe me as I walk in and stand in between Naruto and Sasuke.
"Hey, you ok?" Naruto whispers.
Quickly brushing off his question, I say "Yeah, I'm fine. Just over slept a little, ya know."
He gives me a small grin and I return the gesture with a fake smile. I absolutely hate lying to Naruto, but he can't know the truth. I lift my head as the old man gets our attention. Hiruzen reads aloud our missions for the week. More cleaning, more pet rescues, blah, blah, blah.
'Great.' I silently complain while groaning internally.
Our list of assignments go on, but Naruto interjects suddenly.
"Come on old man! That's boring, give us a real mission!" Naruto demands.
"Naruto!" Sakura shouts at him in a scolding manner.
"Naruto, a mission is a mission and you must fulfill it whether you find it boring or not." Kakashi sensei states calmly.
"But the missions we get now are too easy. Come on, please old man, give us a mission a little more challenging!" Naruto begs towards the hokage, hoping he'll listen.
A moment of silence fills the large room, and although no one says it, I know we're all thinking the same thing. I can tell by both Sasuke and Sakura's expression, especially Sasuke. The third hokage lets out a deep sigh before hesitantly agreeing.
"Alright, I suppose I could assign you a C-rank mission."
"YEAH, ALRIGHT!" Naruto shouts with pure unrelenting enthusiasm.
I stifle a small laugh while trying to calm Naruto.
"Calm down Naruto! He hasn't even told us what the mission is." I point out.
He suddenly stops while mumbling an "Oh yeah."
Bringing our attention back to the third hokage, he continues speaking, while I along with the rest of my team listen intently to hear what our first C-rank mission will be.
"Your mission will be to escort a bridge builder, Tazuna, back to the Land of Waves." He finishes.
Looking at Naruto, I see he's a little disappointed. Most likely wanting to escort someone of higher class, but I'm fine with it. Hopefully this'll help us stray away from all those D-rank assignments.
"So these are the ninjas that are supposed to bring me home?" Says a slightly gruff voice.
Turning around, I see an old man standing at the entrance of the room. He has gray hair and is wearing a small pair of silver glasses that seem to go with his plain clothing. Not to mention the scent of alcohol coming from him. This must be the client we're escorting, Tazuna.
"These kids are ninja? They don't look like much of an escort." He states.
"Well, they'll be with me and I'm a jonin level ninja." Kakashi reassures.
Afterwards he turns to us and continues "I want all of you to gather your things and meet me at the Leaf's main entrance in an hour. After that we'll make our way to the Land of Waves."
Everyone nods understanding what to do. We all exit the building, and head home to start packing.
'Wow, the Land of Waves. This'll be the first time I leave the village. I've never been out...well, I haven't since that night.'
