Gray

In my Head

I found myself in a dark cavern, I heard clicking, I turned around to see the gray mare from earlier, she clopped toward me and shook out her mane, it was black as night and shone with health. Her blue gray coat was speckled with darker gray dapples. She had a large white marking that covered her entire face and some of her chest. Her eyes were stormy gray sort of like mine.
"Where are we?" I asked looking around
"Inside your mind."
"Wow, my brain's pretty boring."
"No, this is only the part humans can see. It lights up when you talk. Everyone's looks like this."
"Oh."
She lead me out of the cavern into a sprawling meadow.
"This," she said, "is your mind."
I stared around in awe. The top was domed and blue, and puffy white clouds with pegasi and dragons crowded around. I'm not surprised that my imagination looks like this.
Mythical creatures and animals were sprinkled in with horses drinking from a lake, the creatures all looked up as we passed, all different colors and breeds and species, I looked at them and waved.
We arrived at a forest clearing.
Ena turned around and horse smiled at me.
"You're a horse shifter."
"I what?"
"You can shift your form into that of a horse, and I can talk to you in your mind, I am your horse."
I backed up a step."So I can come here and talk to you?"
"Yes, I'll know you better than even Olivia or Hannah."
"How do I turn into... you?"
"Just think of me." She horse smiled at me again, and the world started to fade away, including Ena.
"WAIT! HAVE YOU ALWAYS BEEN HERE?"
"You've just forgotten." she called, her voice fading towards the end.
I found myself in Hannah's room under both my friends, who were screaming in agony, their bones seemed to be moving and expanding, and shrinking, and cracking, soon I was a tall gray shire just like Ena. A small almost black dark brown doe with deep gold eyes, and a small white wolf with a hint of gold and blue eyes stood beside me.
I think... I found my purpose.
