CHAPTER 20: Let's Talk

Ethan's p.o.v:

I couldn't help but laugh as Grayson told me what he saw, what the fuck Ella? Neither of us had expected someone like Ella to actually pull out some fists, I mean, the girl was a damn marshmallow most of the time. Sure she could be sassy and a little nasty at times, but she was sweet, cute, not someone you would expect to jump on someone, especially in a mall, especially on someone as tall and masculine as Nate. When Grayson finishes telling me what happened I stifle my laugh and say the first thing that comes to my mind,
"Damn, Ell's got some balls!"
"Ew Ethan, could you have put that in an any more disgusting way?" Grayson twists his face.
"It's not really a big deal, it's more funny than anything else" I say as I get up. Grayson looks at me concerned and says,
"What if she had gotten hurt, what if I hadn't shown up, or it wasn't in a place as public as the mall? They were near an exit, Nate could have easily dragged her out and turned the tables on her if he had thought about it." I step to Grayson and put my hands on his shoulders.
"She's okay, Ella is okay, knowing her she probably feels bad, like she let you down or some shit, but she's okay, Grayson" and with that I slip on my shoes and pull out my phone.
"Where are you going?" Grayson asks.
"Hopefully to go see Ella, I need to hear this from her" I smile knowing I'll probably give her a high five for kicking ass. I see Grayson's jaw clench and I hold myself back from rolling my eyes.
"Grayson, don't get jealous, you know we're just friends, she's all about you bro." Grayson smiles a little after I say that and just nods and then pulls out his phone going through twitter. I text ella and she says she's at the skatepark and that gabby is at the gym again doing some intense workout. I grab my board and make my way there.

Ella is sitting down, her board in between her legs as she sips an iced tea she's pretty much the only one here just a couple guys in the half pipe. She sees me and smiles a warm smile, I grin back and sit down next to her, she passes me a water
"I figured you would skate all the way here, so I got you a water when I got my tea."
"Thanks E" I smile, she giggles
"No problem, E" (we were both "E" and found it funny, lame I know)
"So..." I laugh "the mall?" She sighs and puts her face in her hands,
"He told you?" She groans.
"Yeah but he wasn't there for the whole thing, so can you tell me what went down?" She takes her face out of her hands and I laugh at her embarrassed expression.
"Hey, I thought it was pretty cool from what I heard, you've got some balls" she grimaced like Grayson but then quickly retorted,
"Bigger than yours!" I laugh,
"Don't big note yourself ella, now tell me this story about you going ape shit on Nate in the mall" we both laugh and she tells me the story.

"... and then Grayson drove me back to my apartment, it was quiet the whole ride home." She finishes, looking down seemingly upset with herself.
"What's so bad, Ell?"
"I just- I felt like at the time I was doing the right thing, getting vengeance, even getting myself some closure. I was tipsy and couldn't save her that night, I was almost too late, so I made Nate pay, and he did. But now Gray's mad at me and I was probably stupid enough to lose him by him seeing me go fucking psycho on Nate and I don't know what to do because Grayson acted still loving but mad, I feel like a child that's been scolded and doesn't know when to face her parents, you know?"

She looked at me with big, sad eyes. Damn Grayson and this girl were wrapped up in each other, and I don't think they could even really see it. I looked at her and decided that now was a time to be honest, save savage ethan for later.
"Grayson's more mad at himself than he is mad at you, ella. He cares about you and the whole reason he's acting like this is because he knows that if you weren't in such a public place, it's more than likely Nate would have beaten the shit out of you... or worse... you pushed a lot of Nate's buttons and you got a little crazy, I don't think you realise that you mean quite a lot to Grayson, and he'll probably kill me for saying this but he cares for you so fucking much, he never shuts up about you when we aren't with you, he worried because what if one day he isn't there to protect you and someone hurts you? Whether it's by surprise or because you picked a fight? He was mad because he gives a damn, and he doesn't know what he would do if something happened to you, he just wants you to be careful and safe, and so do I, so that's why he scolded you, and that's why you need to calm yourself now and go see him soon, you guys aren't even fighting, you're just being pussies" we laugh at that last part and she punches my arm lightly.
"Alright. Wow. Thanks Ethan, I wasn't expecting that from you, it means a lot... should we head back now?"
"Yeah, good talk Ell" I say as I help her up, she gives me a hug (classic little marshmallow ella) and I chuckle and hug her back. We throw our empty drinks in the bin and skate back laughing and making jokes like we usually do, I wasn't into ella the way Grayson is, i adore Gabby, but I liked talking and spending time with ella, she was a good friend, which made me wonder what could have gone so wrong back in Sydney, who would want to hurt her?

Alrighty so I'm so so so sorry I missed last weeks Update but both gabby and I were away and busy with our family over Christmas and it just wasn't possible for us to get a chapter up, but as a late Christmas present, I guess our New Years gift to you will be 4 chapters this week and possibly a bonus chapter or two coming still on normal Update day 😉. Anyway hope you all had a great Christmas and feel free to leave ideas in the comments for what you want to see happen in the book, although we have an idea of where we want it to go, we are still open to ideas.
