So, here I am, pulling up to Tracy's house.
I can hear the music all the way out here at the road. It's a good thing that she lives out in the middle of nowhere. I am not in the mood to have the cops come and break up a big ole lesbian party. I see a couple of people walking in, and I decide to text Cassie, and make sure her and Erin are already here.
Hey. Are y'all here yet? I don't wanna walk in by myself. (If I haven't told you, I am from the south. An Alabama girl all they way. Hence, the y'all.)
Yeah, I will come out and meet you at the door. Hurry up.
I get out of the car, and head to the house. I see a few people floating around outside, talking, and a couple making out by the tree in the front yard. I thought this was going to be a small get together? Anyways, as I get to the door, it opens, and Cassie and Erin step outside. They are so corny, in their almost matching outfits. Cassie is a little shorter than me, probably 5'9". She has short spiked black hair, and piercing green eyes. Erin is much shorter, at 5'3", with long brown hair, and hazel eyes. They are both wearing the same color jeans, and the same color shirt, only Erin's is much more feminine. They still match.
"Aren't y'all just cute as can be?" I say as I give them each a hug.(In the south, everyone hugs each other. It is the way we greet one another.)
"What do you mean?" Cassie asks with a frown.
"Like you don't know your outfits are matching. Y'all are so corny. I guess that's what love does to you though, huh?" I laugh as they both blush slightly. I have known these two since high school. I can't believe that I can still embarrass them like this.
"Next topic please." Cassie says to me. "You ready to go inside?"
"Absolutely. I need a drink. If I am going to be here, I need something to take the edge off."
They open the front door and lead me into the house. The first thing I notice as we walk in is the song playing.
...So raise your glass if you are wrong, in all the right ways, all my underdogs. You will never be, never be, anything but loud, and nitty gritty, dirty little freaks...
Pink is one of my favorite artists. If nothing else, maybe the music selection will hold my attention throughout the evening. We head to the kitchen, to grab a drink. Tracy is in here, talking with a group of people that I know.
"Ashley. I didn't think you would make it. I am so glad to see you." Tracy comes over and hugs me. It has been awhile since i have seen her, or anyone else for that matter, outside of short encounters at Wal-Mart, or a local restaurant.
"Hey Tracy. Long time no see. How have things been going?" She pulls back from me and gives me a one over.
"Things are great. I haven't seen you in so long. We need to get together soon and catch up."
"Absolutely. Now, from what I was told, there would be refreshments here, and I am in need of one."
I leave Tracy to go back talking to her friends, and I walk over to Erin and Cassie. We head out the back door, to the back porch. There are coolers lining the railings of the porch. I start digging through them until I find the beer I want. I twist the top and take a long swig. It has been so long since I had had a drink. It was weird. I grab another one, as I know this one will not last long, and I turn to Cassie.
"Okay. Let's go mingle." I said with all the confidence I could muster.
We head back into the house, through the kitchen, and into the living room. The majority of the people are in here, dancing, or sitting on the various pieces of furniture, talking. Erin and Cassie want to dance, so I take a seat in an empty chair. I see some people I recognize, and wave to them. They wave back. Everyone is a little standoffish towards me, and I completely understand. I hadn't been allowed to speak to these people in so long, they were wary as to how to treat the situation. As I am sitting there, drinking my beer, wallowing in self pity, I look towards the kitchen, and standing in the archway, leaning up against the door frame, is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. Everything stops. I have the beer halfway to my mouth, but it is forgotten. My mouth is hanging open, I am sure. I am betting I look like a complete and utter dork. At that moment, she turns her head my way, and our eyes meet.
