Logan Greenwood
He knew better. This might leave him permanently scattered between two time frames, but the boy in front of him was not the Darwin he knew and he would not let Kayden and Eryn die because of his destructive friend. His finger tips were fading and he could barely see them. His hand was wrapped tightly around Kayden's and his heart was straining to pump enough blood through his body. He leaned back just enough to see Kayden holding Eryn's hand.
Logan watched as the Demon, who he now knew as Terror, completely destroyed Darwin from the inside out. There were indescribable screams that split his ears. He kept his ground, waiting for the right moment to run. His eyes never left the Demon. As much as he didn't want to, Logan believed Darwin himself was a Demon. He'd said it just moments ago. Logan waited, the burns on his arm, which were still a mystery to him, singed with pain.
As Darwin changed in front of him, Logan couldn't help but grip Kayden's hand even tighter. Their fingers intertwined with fear of what was coming. Logan had witnessed this once before already, but the adrenaline continued to race through him. The rain was a swirling storm of cold water that hit Logan in the eyes and seeped into his already wet clothes.
"Logan?" Kayden whispered in question. "What's happening?"
Darwin was still Logan's best friend. Honestly, Logan wasn't sure is he could even trust Kayden. He kept his lips sealed and the edges of his teeth pressed together. The moment came when Darwin looked up with those pits of black and the demonic wings sprouted from his back. Logan heard Eryn mumble.
"At least his go away."
He sharpened his eyes and waited. Logan kept his eyes on Terror who flicked his forked tongue, trying to know when was the best time to run.
The Demon laughed hoarsely, "Gonna run again, are we? Isn't that what you do best?" The questions were asked in mockery. Terror was almost making fun of Logan. He gritted his teeth, his hand tensing in Kayden's. He could see Terror's wings flex in the rain. He was waiting for Logan to run.
Without warning, Logan darted, the screech of the Demon following. As soon as he started running, he immediately regretted it. He could see his fingers fade quicker in the moonlight. Despite this, he ripped through the night with the two girls running effortlessly beside them.
"How-how are you doing this?!" Logan heard Eryn call from beside Kayden. Their hands were interlocked and they were nearly running in a line. On the inside, Logan was freaking out. He was going to die if he kept doing this. Behind them, Terror was calling threats with Its awful shriek.
"You can't run forever, Logan!" It taunted. "Your ice is getting thin!"
Logan wanted to cry. He'd like to believe that Terror was just trying to get under his skin, but the Demon was right. Logan was fading fast and the more he kept running, the worse it would get.
He looked around for any place they could hide as they ran through the forest, weaving in and out of the trees. Logan spotted a burrow tucked away behind a wall of moss. He yanked Kayden and Eryn along with him. Terror was behind them, hopefully enough so It couldn't she the sharp turn Logan made.
He practically threw them into the burrow. Eryn yelled in protest. Logan shoved his hand over her mouth. He put a finger to his lips and stared at them.
