Can't Wait: Auston Matthews

Zugzwang is a noun i've learned a while back. It stands for a situation where every possible move or decision is a bad one, or one that will result to damage or loss.

"Ivy?" A voice says from behind me and I turn to face the voice.

"Auston?" I say back to him.

"We'll talk you you later Ivy." Steph says as I give her and Mitch one last hug and Auston comes up to me.

"Ivy, look i'm so sorry. When I was with you I broke up with Jessica, but then it ends up she said we got back together and she kissed me. I never wanted to hurt you and I never will again." Auston says reaching for my hand and I let him hold it.

"I'm sorry for burning your stuff too." I say blushing and looking at the floor.

"I've really fallen for everything about you Ivy." Auston says making my head snap up really quick.

"Like what?" I ask him

"I've fallen for your laugh, which is utterly contagious. I've fallen for you smile, which makes me giddy for no reason at all. I've fallen for our late night talks, when 1 am arrives to quickly. I've fallen for our jokes, which i'll remember days later and burst into laughter. I've fallen for how you can make my day better, even if I wanted to cry a minute before. I've fallen for every second I get to spend with you, even if those seconds leave me wanting more." Auston tells me stepping closer.

"I've waited for so long for you to say something like that." I say smirking up at him.

"I thought I was the impatient one." Auston jokes.

"I guessed it rubbed off on me." I say as we both fall silent and look up at the night sky.

"You wanna know how impatient i am?" Auston asks looking down at me.

"How?" I ask him back.

"Because I can't wait too see you. I can't wait to hug you, I can't wait to kiss you, I can't wait to tell you how much I love you and I care about you. I can't wait to marry you because you will get to be the first person I see every day and the last person I see everyday." Auston rambles on and I watch him talk and my pieces of my broken heart start to come together.

"Please take me back Ivy, please." Auston says as he connects our lips in a soft quick kiss.

"I'm sorry Auston but no, we can't. I live in Calgary now and you're here in Toronto and I can't handle a long distance relationship. We just have to wait for the perfect time." I say with tears in my eyes.

"I hate waiting. But if waiting means being able to be with you, i'll wait for as long as forever to be with you." Auston tells me and I smile up at him happily knowing that he understands.

"Maybe we'll met again, when we are slightly older and our minds less hectic, and i'll be right for you and you'll be right for me. But right now i'm chaos to your thoughts and you are poison to my heart. Someday someone is going to look at you with a light in their eyes you've never seen, they'll look at you like you're everything they've been looking for their entire lives. Just wait for it, i know you can." I say to Auston and a single tear falls from my eyes.

"I will, i promise Ivy." Auston tells me and our shuttle for my team pulls up.

"Um, I gotta go now. I'll see you again." I tell Auston as I turn away and try and walk back into the arena.

"Ivy." Auston says as he pulls my wrist and turns me around to face him and he smashes his lips onto mine and we share and amazing moment between us both. Once we pull away all we could do is smile and walk our separate ways.

||AT THE AIRPORT||

Once I got onto the plane, i take a seat in my regular stop beside Johnny and put in my headphones in my ears.

"Hey Ivy." Johnny says as he takes his seat beside me and I just smile. I then lean my head on the window and close my eyes.I think about last night and the events that happened.

The truth is , things change. They change in ways we could never predict and we are often rocked to our core. Yet, there's nothing more beautiful then hearts coming back together. Passionate reunions. Time feels like it disappears and everything unimportant drifts away. Those moments are made of magic, and that's what happened last night.

Waiting is a sign of true love and patience. Anyone can say I love you, but not everyone can wait and prove it's true, but maybe Auston can.

And I can't wait to find out.
