My dad led us into the lounge and gestured for us to sit on the sofa as he went to make us a cup of tea and both my sisters, (aged 5 and 6), stopped in their tracks, looking wide eyed at us.

I gestured to may, "this is may, she's someone very special that I'd like you to meet... she's my girlfriend."
May squeezed my hand tensely, not sure what to think about the situation.

My youngest sister, Emma, toddled over to her, her face blank with no readable expression. She pointed her tiny finger at my girlfriend's jeans, a look of worry becoming evident in her face,
"You've got a hole in your jeans,"
"I know," may giggled in response.
"Are they okay?" Asked my sister, becoming more and more worried.
"Yes thanks cutie," smiled May.
"I'm adorable," my sister said with a grin, "do you need some new jeans?" She asked, the worry coming back.
"Nope. They came like this," smiled may, twirling a strand of my sisters messy long blonde hair around her finger amusedly.
My sisters face lit up into a smile, "Hehe that's silly," before she dragged may by her hand- Emma being surprisingly strong for a five year old.
"Come play!"
"Do you like loom bands?" My other sister, lucy, interjected.
"You'll have to teach me, "may smiled before following her, leaving me to watch them play together happily.

In the mean time my dad had come back with our cups of tea, putting them on the side and sitting down next to me.
"So this is the infamous may?" He asked, "I'm surprised I didn't guess you were more than friends before."
I smiled in response, "yup, she's pretty damn amazing."

My dad pulled me into a hug and kissed the top of my head, "I'm just glad that you're happy."

That really meant a lot.
