"are you ready?" I stared at Kaden and smiled. Gosh I'm so dead. My shoulder had a tingling feeling to it and I brushed it aside.
"After you" I walked into the hall which was beautifully decorated. I gazed at the bright lights and continued walking till I stopped where everyone else was. Kaden walked to the microphone and everywhere became silent.
"welcome to the dinner organised the LFP which is the acronym for League For peace. We've gathered everyone from various continent to be part of this army because of the great evil that was foreseen by this body." He paused then continued "tonight is to have fun but also tonight is when we choose the warriors that will fight alongside myself, the prince and other officials. Before the end of this dinner the test of strength will be performed and the bests of the bests will be chosen. If you do not qualify, you'll be returned to your various homes. However, there is an exception for healers." Let the party begin " people cheered and clapped while I was having a panic party

I looked at everyone doing a strange dance and sighed, this isn't the bàtá that I know. I sat on a table and looked at the strange food that was labelled as mac and cheese. I took a fork and twirled the mac. Hmm this isn't so bad. I ate and felt happy with myself again and began munching on it
"Faseyi!" I looked up at the person with cheese around my mouth and quickly licked it off
"Oh! Hey Kike" I embraced my halve sister and smiled at her. She looked dashing in her long-sleeved gown. She could control the earth and that power was pretty awesome unlike mine.
"where's Maami?" kike smiled happily making me to smile alongside with her "the oyinbo (whites) found a cure for her" oh my God why didn't I know this. I thought she was going to die. I cleaned a stray tear and smiled at her
"where is she?"
"she's at_" she was cut off by the loud screeching of microphone "bye" she got lost in the crowd and I sighed.
"what's a pretty lady doing here all alone?" I stared at the person and smiled
"hey Luke" he held my right palm and kissed the back. I felt all warm and giddy inside the gown becoming and interesting sight.
"may I have this dance" he didn't wait for an answer and pulled me to the middle of the dance floor. Everyone stopped and stared at us making me feel more embarrassed

"Lucas I can't dance" I whispered yelled in his ears

"don't worry just follow my lead" he kept his right hand on my waist and pulled me closer. His face was really close making it harder to breath

"when I move forward move back and when I move left move left." I nodded and the song was starting. How bowed and I saw other girls squatting then coming up so I mirrored their movements. He tried to raise my hand but to twirl me but I winced and he looked at me questioningly. He pulled me close and placed my head on his chest "what's wrong with your shoulders Seyi?" I didn't answer him I just kept on enjoying the feeling of being this close to a guy. The song ended and he dragged me outside ignoring the cheers from people. We got to the stream and he sat me down and wanted to get my zipper

"hey slow down what are you doing?" the moon light illuminated his features making him look even better.
"you're hurt. I want to see how bad it is" I felt self-conscious because

He loosened my zipper and pulled my sleeves down. Oh God. My left shoulder was okay but my right was a different story. It was red and swollen a little but it was really red. I looked at the reflection in the ocean then looked away.

"how did this happen" he trailed his finger on my shoulder and I winced. He pulled back and his gaze hardened
"how the fuck did this happen!" his breathing was ragged and he stood up pacing to a fro. I closed my eyes to prevent the tears from falling and heard his voice again "you know you need your shoulder both shoulders tonight"
"I'm sorry"
"you're sorry! you think what Kaden said was true. If you don't pass this you will automatically be shipped to an island for extra training and torture, do you know why? Because our leaders agreed to it and we have nothing to do about it" I stared at my feet and cried silently. I don't want to be tortured or shipped off.

He kept my dress back in place and we walked into the hall together. I sat down and didn't bother to speak with anyone. I played with the necklace on my neck and stared into space.

I can't accept this.
I was about to stand up when Wale came and pulled me back

"hey Seyi"

Thank God that was my left hand.
I smiled at him and he hugged me " am I forgiven" he voice sounded muffled in my hair and I smiled
"yes, I can't stay mad at you" I laughed patting his back
"let's dance" thank God I just got some lessons from Luke.

We got to the dance floor and a fast song was on

The dance ended and my heart was beating fast. Sweat trickled down my skin and I rubbed it off with my hand "hey let's go outside for some air" I smiled and walked outside with Wale by my side. We got outside and Wale cleared his throat "hmm?"
"I've been meaning to tell you something Faseyi, have a seat"

I sat on the bench and waited for him to continue
"for some time now Seyi I've been feeling somethings that I know I shouldn't feel"

"aww Wale do you have feelings for kike" he looked confused before a look of understanding took over his expression
"no no I don't like her, please let me continue" he looked at me and scooted closer
"I love you Seyi, I always have. I was afraid to tell you before but I just realised that I have nothing to lose except you"

I looked at him for a long time and stood up

"you probably had a lot to drink Wale. Let me give you some time to clear your head" I laughed and stood up dusting my gown and smiling
" if this is a prank Wale ha ha good one, I guess" I turned to walk away but he pulled my left hand back and hugged me "please don't reject me Seyi"
"what exactly do you want me to do Wale" I removed his hands and looked at him. My eyes are probably glassy ugh darn you and your silly feelings Wale.
"don't just reject me let me love you" he raised my chin up and stared at me
"even if you have no feelings for me, let me love you. Can you do that for me" by now our faces were bare inches apart and I felt a tug in the pit of my stomach.
