Riley's POV
"We are separating you guys to two different groups. The morning group and the afternoon group. If you have a red paper you are in the morning and if you have a blue paper you are in the evening." I tell the dancers. They open the envelopes and some pull out blue and some pull out red. "If you have a blue paper, just hang around in the juice bar or in the studio." James announces. The dancers nod and half of them walk off. Which leaves a couple
from A-Troupe, 1 from B-Troupe and the rest of the dancers from other studios.
We gave them a half and hour to prepare there freestyles and then an hour to learn the choreography part. Once they were finished, it was clear who deserved to be on the team and who did not. The afternoon group was like this too. Half and hour for freestyles and an hour for choreo.
By the end of the first day I was so tired from standing on my feet it hurt. Being pregnant and standing all day doesn't mix. Like at all. My ankles are red and swollen. I had to put ice on them when I got home.
Olivia was in tomorrow's group and a lot of the other A-troupers as well. I know it's not the right time but I want to speak to Olivia about school.
After dinner I sat her down so we could talk. "Olivia, you had a doctor's note saying you could miss a few weeks of school and I think it's been long enough. I know your winter break is soon but you need to take the exams for the first semester." I explain. "Alright" she says and the conversation needed there. I tell her goodnight and got up to go to bed.
While I was in bed I thought about something that I needed to talk to James about also. When he came to bed I asked him. "Should we find out the baby's gender?" I ask. "Yea whatever...." he says falling asleep. I decide not to continue the one way conversation and go to bed.
James' POV
I drive Olivia, Riley and myself to the studio the next morning and stop at a our usual coffee shop on our way there. Olivia and I both got coffee and Riley passed as she said she wasn't feeling that great.
When we arrive at the studio Riley goes straight to her office and Olivia and I set up studio A for today's auditions.
An hour after we arrived the 2nd day dancers start filling studio A. Most of them are A-troupers. I look around the room and I glanced at someone twice. I was shocked to see Skylar here to audition. I quickly go over to Riley. "Did you know Skylar is here?" I ask. She nods her head. "Yes I saw her but I wasn't that surprised." She replies. "Oh ok well let's get started then." I say.
Riley and I tell them the rules just like yesterday and then the morning group runs off to rehearse. The A-troupers really set the bar high as far as freestyles go. I can see some of the new dancers are worried.
The day goes by really smoothly and by tomorrow will will have a team for Regionals.
Riley's POV
After the dancers went home it was just Olivia, James and me left. I decide that Olivia should help pick out the team with James and I. "So out of all the A-troupers , who did the best to get a spot?" I ask the two of them. "Well Olivia definitely got a spot and I think Richelle and Noah should have a spot too so that already takes up 3 out of the ten." James states. "Yea I agree" I say. "I think Jake and Mason did awesome." Olivia adds. "Yes I agree but Jake has been on the team for a while and I think he's outgrown The Next Step." I tell them. James nods in agreement. "Sophia did amazing as well." He adds. "We need North so he has to be on A troupe too!" Olivia declares. "Ok, so we have Olivia, Noah, Richelle, Mason, Sophia and North. That's six and we need four more." I say.
"How about Skylar? I mean she is a great dancer." Olivia suggests. "No that's a big no." I tell her. "Addy did great too and I think A-Troupe will make her grow and come out of her shell." James points out. "Yea and how about Carter and Evelyn?" I suggest. "Well Evelyn is from B-Troupe so we kinda know her but Carter is new." Olivia points out. "Yea but Carter is killer!" James exclaims. "Babe that's because he is like you. A player. Did you see him with the girls?" I question. James pretends to be offended. "Ok I wasn't talking about that part, I was talking about the sick moves he does." Plus you changed me for the better babe." James says kissing my cheek.
Olivia and I both laugh. "Hey maybe he can find a Riley while he's here at The Next Step." Olivia says. I laugh again and so does James. "Ok We have Richelle, Olivia, Noah, Mason, Sophia, Addy, Evelyn, Carter and North. We need one more." "Ok how about Niko?" I suggest. (pronounced Knee-co) "Perfect! We have our team!" James says excited. "I guess we do." I laugh. "And I'm on it!" Olivia squeals and we all laugh.
James' POV
The next morning we post the results in Studio A and on the studios website for those who don't go to The Next Step. I do feel bad for cutting some of the A-troupers. For example: Jake and Liam.
"Gather around dancers!" Riley exclaims and all of them gather around Riley. "For those of you who are new, My name is Riley and I am the studio head here at The Next Step. This is my husband James and is the head choreographer here. We work hard at TNS and I will always have a eye on you. My office is right here in Studio A so I know what's going on at all times. One final thing, We are giving you a Winter break so today is your last time here for this year. We will start up again on January 3rd." Riley explains. "If you have any questions or you just want to talk Riley or I will always be here for you guys. Oh if Riley scared you with her speech, I can tell you she's a softy." I add and everyone laughs. Niko raised his hand. "Do you have any kids?" He asks. "Well no but we're expecting one." Riley says pointing toward her little belly. "Oh congrats." He says and then I dismiss the dancers.
Later after the dancers left Riley took some stuff home because we aren't coming back here till January. Riley took the money and the some papers along with her laptop and locked up the studio. We saw Luke on our way out and I stoped and talked to him for a little bit telling him that Chloe and him should come over sometime.
We arrived home and had a quick supper. Riley has a doctors appointment tomorrow to see about the baby's gender. Riley and I talked about it that night and we were ok with what we chose to do for the gender reveal.
Riley's POV
The next morning went great. I dropped Olivia off at school and explained the whole situation to her teachers and they said she could make up for the schooling she lost and then we had a meeting with her agent. They said they still haven't found her parents and have no news yet so then we went to my appointment.
"Riley Tordjman?" The nurse called. James and I stood and followed her to a room. She did the usual checkup and left. Around 30 minutes of waiting Bree finally came in. "Sorry for the long wait." She says. "Don't even worry about it." James replies and she smiles.
Dr. Bree did the same routine she always does and then we listened to the baby's heartbeat and saw the baby on the screen. "So do you want to know the gender of your baby?" She asks. "Actually, Riley and I decided to wait until the baby's born to know." James tells her. "Oh ok." Bree says surprised. "Well beside the gender let's give you an update on baby." She says. "Your baby is growing perfectly and the heartbeat is just right. The only thing that I'm concerned about is your belly. It's quite small to be 16 weeks along. Try to avoid wearing tight shirts and pants. Oh and you can start having monthly appointments again." Bree states. "Ok and I have a question. Why am I so tired?" I ask. "Riley, its perfectly normal to be tired. Your pregnant. There is no need to be concerned." She says. I thank her and she says one last thing before she exits. "Richelle was so excited that she made A-Troupe again." She smiles and shuts the door. "See Riley, there's nothing to worry about." James says and I playfully hit his shoulder. We walk out of the doctors office hand and hand and drive home.
