The group plus Lyla were circled around Professor Sycamore's machine to see if they could determine what type of mega stone it was. He started he machine up and it synced, and the result popped up a moment later. Sycamore's face lit up.

"Professor, what is it?" Lyla asked.

"I'm sorry my dear, it's not a Pidgeotite, but it is a new one I haven't seen before! You discovered yet another Pokémon that can mega evolve!"

"Aw, that sucks, but it's totally amazing to have found a new type. What Pokémon is it for?" Lyla asked.

"According to my machine, it's for Ninetails! So a Ninetailsinite! Marvelous! You wouldn't happen to have one would you?" Lyla shook her head.

"No professor."

"Well, you could keep it and go find and catch a Vulpix and evolve it. You found it, you should keep it."

"That's okay Professor. I already have a fire type, my Braixen. I want my team to be balanced, because I'm trying for the Kalos League. I want to be like Ash Ketchum." Ash felt his cheeks warm as this young trainer openly said she wanted to be like him.

"Well, I think that's a very good goal." Dawn said, smiling. "He's very strong. And he's kind, and funny," Then Dawn gave Lyla a cheeky smile. "And he's right there, behind the professor." Dawn pointed me out and I waved. Lyla's eyes bugged out of her skull and her mouth dropped open.

"Oh my gosh! I didn't even know it was you! I'm such a big fan!" Lyla ran over to Ash, who stepped back a little. Serena giggled in spite of herself. "I can't believe you took out the old Kanto Champion with just one Pokémon! That's so cool!" Ash scratched his nose and smiled sheepishly.

"Well, it was a lot of hard work, Declan put up a good fight."

"And where is Pikachu anyways?" Lyla exclaimed. "I want to meet him!" Ash chuckled and called Pikachu over.

"Come here buddy." Pikachu ran over to Ash and leapt into his arms, squealing happily. "Pikachu, this is Lyla. She said she really wants to meet you."

Serena and Dawn were thinking the same things as they watched Ash. He was amazing with kids, and he looked so natural. Lyla was only 10, so she was utterly starstruck by the 20 year old kneeling in front of her holding Pikachu out to be pet. Ash had a sad smile on his face, and Dawn was pained by how dead his eyes still looked.

"He really likes it when you pet his tail." Ash said. Lyla moved her strokes to Pikachu's tail, who squealed. "Chaaa!" Lyla laughed.

"He's so soft." Ash nodded. "He's really strong too. Here, try this." Ash moved the 10 year old's hand to Pikachu's underbelly, and she blushed openly. Serena smiled sweetly at the adorable exchange.

"Do you wanna hold him?" Ash asked Lyla. Her eyes brightened and she smiled, nodding her head.

"Oh can I?!" Ash chuckled and nodded, handing Pikachu to the girl. Their fingers brushed again and Lyla's face lit up like a tomato berry. Dawn giggled, as did Serena.

Lyla was cradling Pikachu, who was curled in her arms, eyes closed in contentment. "Guess what Ash?" Lyla asked suddenly.

"What?"

"I have a Pikachu too!" She exclaimed. "Wanna see?"

"That's awesome Lyla. I'd love to." Lyla handed Pikachu back to Ash, who placed the yellow Pokémon on the ground.

"Sparky come out!" Lyla tossed the pokeball, and a Pikachu with a heart tail appeared, tiling her head.

"Wow she's awesome." Ash complimented. His Pikachu walked over and said hi.
