Chapter Thirty-Eight

"And the winner of the Couriway Town Showcase is....Performer Dawn!" Monsieur Pierre exclaimed after the votes came in. "With this key, I believe you now have three Princess Keys, and are able to compete in the Master Class!"

Dawn smiled huge and nodded, hooking the pretty emerald and gold key to her key ring. This was it! She was in the Master Class! All of her training, and now she gets to go up against Serena for Kalos Queen.

"I'm terrified." Serena whispered softly to Ash while she clapped. Ash shook his head violently, staring deep into her eyes. Serena gave her boyfriend a soft smile, but the scared feeling didn't leave. Dawn's Performances are spectacular.

"Dawn was great!" Gary exclaimed happily. He was still curious as to why Dawn was being distant, but maybe it was just because she had two important contests coming up. Maybe she wouldn't act like that anymore.

Naomi watched him cheer for Dawn with a small blush. He was handsome, and he was kind. She was a little sad because he was with Dawn for the time being, but there wasn't really anything she could do. Not to mention she had no idea why she was acting like this, it almost felt like when she and Proton were growing up.

"Come on, let's go congratulate her." Clemont said good-naturedly. The gang nodded and descended from the top box.

"Dawn, congratulations!" Korrina exclaimed once they saw her backstage. Dawn turned around and smiled.

"Thank you!" She said. "Ash, did you see? I got my third Princess key!" She grinned and held the key up, showing him. Ash nodded, a smile on his face. She held her hand up for a high five, which Ash returned.

"Good job Dawn. I look forward to competing against you in the Master Class!" Serena exclaimed. She was still scared that she may not win, and mistrustful of Dawn around Ash, but she hid it. No sense in letting Dawn, or anyone, know how she was feeling.

"Me too! And I'm gonna win." Dawn smirked and crossed her arms.

"That's too bad, because I'm planning on keeping my title." Serena replied with a confident smile. Dawn's playful smile turned slightly darker, throwing Serena off a bit.

"Come on guys, let's go to the Pokémon Center." Dawn said, turning and leading the way out of the Showcase Arena.

"Dawn wow! You were amazing!" A little girl who looked to be about 5 ran up to her as the gang were on their way to the Pokémon Center.

"Oh, thank you!" Dawn exclaimed. The little girl's hazel eyes were shining. Her light blue hair was pulled up into pigtails, secured with pink bows.

"Can I have a picture please?" She asked. Dawn was about to answer when the little girl caught sight of Serena. "Wait! Oh my Arceus you're the Kalos Queen!" Serena giggled and nodded. The little girl's mouth dropped open. "I want a picture with you instead!"

"Sure, why not?" Serena said, smiling. Dawn glared at the blonde, annoyed that the little girl completely ignored her after she saw Serena. The little girl pulled out a camera.

"Hey Ash can you take it?" Serena asked. Ash smiled and nodded, walking over to the little girl to get her camera.

"Ash? Ash Ketchum?" She asked. "Ash-champion-of-five-regions-Ketchum?"

"That's him." Gary said, throwing his arm around Ash with a grin. Ash glanced at Gary and chuckled to himself.

"My big sister is a huge fan of yours! And I've seen your battles too!" The little girl turned away from the group, and sprinted off. "Wait please!" The gang laughed, except Dawn, who was still annoyed.
