Chapter Eight

"So, where's the next showcase?" Dawn asked.

"Uh, it's in Cyllage City." Serena replied. Dawn looked it up.

"Oh wow, that's really close!" She exclaimed. Ash smiled.

"Don't we pass through Ambrette Town?" He asked.

"If we pass by the Muraille Coast." Serena said. Ash smiled.

"Remember the aquarium guys?" He asked Clemont, Serena, and Bonnie. They smiled and nodded. "I wonder if the aquarium director caught the golden Magikarp yet."

"Oh yeah!" Clemont exclaimed. Bonnie nodded, smiling. Gary glanced at Dawn, wondering if she knew what they were talking about. Dawn shrugged.

"Oh it was so pretty! Right Dedenne?" Bonnie said, laughing. Dedenne agreed and burrowed back into Bonnie's bag.

"And remember Amaura and Aurorus?" Serena asked, smiling. Ash nodded. "Oh they were gorgeous!"

"Amaura and Aurorus?" Gary asked.

"Oh yeah! They're a couple of ancient Pokémon the lab there restored. We saved them from Team Rocket, remember guys?"

"Yeah. It was so frightening, Amaura was in pretty bad shape when we found it." Clemont replied.

"Arceus, I haven't heard that name for a while." Gary laughed, leaning back on his chair. "They were the ones who were always after Pikachu, right Ash?" Ash nodded, scratching his companion's soft ears.

"So when are we leaving?" Bonnie asked.

"We? I have to take Dawn, and I figured Serena would come along because she has to be there anyways, and Gary and I need to complete the Pokedex, but you guys don't have to come along. Clemont, you've got a wedding to plan for and a gym to tend."

"My father took over the gym, and, anyways, Clembot is still there, and Korrina and I can plan the wedding on the road, can't we?" Korrina smiled and nodded.

"Yeah, it would be so much fun!"

"And I wouldn't mind going through Kalos again." Bonnie said, smiling. Ash sighed and laughed.

"I guess we're all going. Almost like old times." Ash grinned. Ash, Serena, Bonnie, and Clemont started talking about they're adventures when they were young, and Dawn sat back, sighing.

It sounds like Ash had a lot of fun with those three. Dawn thought. She wondered if maybe she was getting in the way of him reconnecting. He's barely hung out with her the whole time they were in Lumiose, going off with Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie a lot.

"Hey, stop worrying about it." Gary muttered to Dawn.

"Huh?" She asked, looking into his dark eyes. He really was pretty handsome. If she didn't love Ash, she'd probably be flirting up a storm with Gary Oak.

"I know you, and I know that look you get when you're thinking too hard." Gary muttered, staring deep into the girl's blue orbs. "Your forehead scrunches together and you look down at the floor." He poked her forehead, running his finger along the bumps. Dawn's heart raced slightly, and Gary swallowed hard.

He definitely had feelings for this girl, and he hates that Ash is leading her on like this. He can't love her the way he could love her, traveling the last few years with her proved that. She was all things gentle and good, and her level-headedness tempered Gary's quick-to-rise anger. Ash was too much of a wild card, you never knew what he might do next. He dances to the beat of his own drum, and he just goes wherever the wind suggests he goes. Dawn, on the other hand, is always consistent, and once her mind is made up she won't change it, no matter what.
