"You won't steal the couch from me again, will you?" I joke and smile at Rafael as he sits down on the couch.
"Hmm, I might. I really like this couch," He smiles and spreads out on the couch. I kick off my shoes and sit on the opposite side of him, tucking my legs under myself. "So have you thought of any other questions? Answering is the best I can do since I have tomorrow off and can't really show you much." He winks.
"Actually yea, I have one." He listens intently and I smile, "Why are you so nice to me?"
"What do you mean?"
I clear my throat, "Like, Carisi told me you're mean and," I look up at him, "snarky."
He pretends to look hurt and puts his hand up to his chest, "Me? Snarky? I don't know what I could have done to give him that impression." He smiles and shrugs, "I don't know, you're already awkward and I don't want to overwhelm you with being too sarcastic."
I scoff and look at him silently for a moment, "I am not awkward."
"Su negación es obvio, but it's fine, it's cute." He smirks at my and I feel my cheeks burn. I hate this. I sit back, crossing my arms and shaking my head. "So you're either cleary socially awkward or you have a crush on me."
"NO," He can tell his assumption was right, "I mean, no... I don't."
"Aw, Ana, that's sweet." He smiles and sits up. "But do you have any real questions?"
What do I even say? He knows. I lean my head against the couch and let my arms drop to my lap. "Am I that awkward?"
He looks at me and leans his head tp make straight eye contact with me, "I didn't mean it in a bad way, you can't change how you are novio."
I smile and whisper, "Thanks..."
He stands and goes over to a closet, opening it and pulling out a blanket. He hands it to me and kisses my forehead, "Get some rest, good night."
Holy shit. My stomach flips and all I can do is nod and bury my face into the blanket as he turns off the living room light and I hear his bedroom door open and shut.
I try to get comfortable, using two throw pillows and covering myself in the thin blanket he gave me. He must not have visitors often enough to get more cozy ones. I stare out a window on the side of the TV. Lightning starts cracking and rain patters down the window. I try to close my eyes and fall asleep but then a roll and snap of thunder makes me jump. I sit up and look around. No way I'm gonna fall asleep right now. See light coming out from under Rafael's door, he's still up. No, don't bother the guy. You heard him, you're awkward. Despite the fact I can't compromise why I'm doing it, I get up and knock on his bedroom door.
"Come in." I open the door and awkwardly walk in. He's sitting up in his bed looking through a file and I stand there, awkwardly. "What's wrong?"
"I uh," god damn it, "...forgot why I came in here, haha." I smile shyly.
He pats the bed next to him, "Come, sit. Are you scared of the thunder?"
"Well n-" don't be awkward, he'll tell you're lying. "Yea I've never really been a fan of storms." I sit next to him and look at up to see him smiling. He suddenly warps his arms around me and pulls me towards him. He holds me tightly and I let myself enjoy it instead of wondering why.
I don't remember in the slightest how but I woke up, snuggled into Rafael's side, to the bright sun shining in his bedroom window. I look up and he's sleeping still, his chest rising and setting gently and rhythmically. What does this mean? How could I convice anyone this was platonic? Shut up Naomi, enjoy it. I put my head on his chest and try falling back asleep.
"Are you awake Ana?" His voice is low and scruffy. Hot oh my god.
"Yea, sorry did I wake you up?" I looked up at him and he smiled at me before he closed his eyes again.
"Nope, but It's Saturday so I'm gonna go back to sleep."
"Okay, I'm gonna go back to my hotel. I need to shower and change and figure out where I'm gonna stay so I don't bother you anymore." As I sit up and slide to the edge of the bed. He grunts and I look back.
He's sitting up and looking at me. "You could just bring your stuff here, unnecessary to go back and forth when you keep ending up here." He smiles and I nod.Rafael's POV
Naomi leaves and I figure I can go shower and get out of the suit I've been wearing since yesterday.
What was it with her? I don't know why or how but I felt strangly happy with her, and we weren't even together. Everyone I talk to, I can relentlessly dish out sarcastic replies to just about everything. But her, My head clears and I can't help but do a complete 180 from total jackass to a nice guy. She's sweet and beautiful and not completely disgusted by everything I do. She's Carisi's cousin and It would be completely wrong, what is she, 28?
I shower and put on sweat pants and a plain white T-Shirt. It's been about an hour since Naomi left, what if I scared her away? Wait no, I'm scaring myself. I haven't felt like this since that one girl in high school. Knock knock.Naomi's POV
I just threw on a pair of gray joggers and a plain pink T-Shirt. I knock on Rafael's door with my white bookbag and suit case with everything I brought.
"Oh hey you came back, I thought I scared you off." He smiled as he walked over to his coffee maker and started making coffee, what else would he do with it?
I close the door behind me and set my bags down by the couch. "It's weird, I've never seen you in not a suit." I sit down at his kitchen table and watch him as he pours two cups of coffee.
"There's a first for everything cariño." He sets the two cups of coffee down and sits across from me. "I need to ask you something."
"What's up?" I pick up my cup and take little sips of my coffee.
"I don't know how to say it but, I really really like you Naomi." He looks me in the eyes and I nearly choke on my coffee, which he doesn't take too well. "I'm so sorry I didn't mean to-"
"No no it's fine I just," I set my coffee cup down and laugh a little to myself, "I felt like an idiot because I have a like, little-kid crush on you."
He half smiles and takes a drink of his coffee. "You're kidding right?"
"You sure do know when to pull out the snarky comments on a lady." I roll my eyes and take my coffee to the living room. I turn on the TV and put my legs up on the couch, crossing them at the ankles. He was probably messing with me anyways.
"Come on, I was joking." Rafael comes over, lifing my feet and sitting wear they were. I put them back down on his lap and set my coffee on the table. "Hey, I was serious. I really like you Naomi but I don't think you'd be willing to have a romantic relationship with me considering you're supposed to be shadowing me and you're Carisi's cousin."
"I know but," I fold my legs and sigh, "I'm sorry but I feel like you're messing with me."
He leans forward and puts his hands on my cheeks. I tried to say something but before I can he presses his lips against mine, my stomach flutters and my eyes droop shut. This cannot be real life.
