20 minutes has past and I see him beginning to wake up. A quiet but wide yawn escapes his mouth and his eyes flutter open.

I see his eyes dart in my direction and he sits bolt upright. "W-what are you doing here?" He stutters, staring at me in confusion and shock.

"You weren't at school...I was worried" I say.

"Why?" He asks, he seems a little panicked.

"I was worried that...maybe your parents had something to do with you not being in" my eyes draw to the floor and I hear Chandler scoot to the edge of his bed so he is facing me.

"Look at me Maddie" my eyes slowly make their way up to meet his. "I'm okay. Just a little sore, that's all" he states.

"Sore?" I ask. "I had an argument last night with my parents and a couple punches were thrown...that's it" my eyes fill with worry.

"I'm okay...honestly. Now please, Madison. You need to go, my dad will be home soon"

"I'm not leaving you alone, Chandler. Not with them. I've met your mum and I now know what a spiteful cow she is through my own eyes" his eyes widen.

"Y-you met her? W-what happened?" He stutters. Obviously thinking she did something.

"After school I came here and your mum answered the door and was just very rude. I said that I was here to see you and she said that you don't have any friends and then told me to fuck off because she needed to get to work" I explained.

"Oh" he says and looks down. I get up and go to sit next to him on the bed.

I look into his ocean, blue eyes. "Listen, I hate the thought of you having to live here. The thought that you could be being physically abused whilst I'm in bed asleep kills me. Why do you continue to live here?" My eyes a cloudy with tears threatening to fall.

"They're my parents, Madison. Even though they abuse me...I still love them. Th-they weren't always like this" he states. Tears threatening to fall now begin to cloud his blue eyes.

"We used to be a perfect family. Me, mum, dad, and Grayson. We used to have family holidays, go on family road trips. We used to smile and laugh a lot. Until roughly two years ago...one night my dad turned to drinking after having an argument with mum. The next morning...she...she found my dad in bed with another woman and my mum turned to alcohol to conceal the pain" he explains. His voice shaky, as he gets deeper into the story.

"Why don't they just get a divorce, since they always argue?" I ask.

"B-because they like the power and dominance that comes with shouting the house down. They still love each other, so they very rarely hit each other. Instead...they their anger out on me and Gray. Mostly me" he explains further. The tears now, no longer threatening to fall as they trickle down his cheek.

"Oh Chandler" I say softly and embrace him into a tight hug. Letting his tears roll of my shoulders.
