Ella's POV
I woke up in the middle of the night hearing loud moaning. It was clear Zayn was staying over. I swore under my breath, there was no way I'd be able to get back to sleep all the time he and Lucy were going at it.
A let out a frustrated huff and decided to get a glass of water to moisten my bone dry throat.
I opened the bedroom door and was startled by the sight. Harry sat upright on the sofa with one of our spare blankets draped over his legs. He had a pillow held against his ears and he groaned into it, clearly just as frustrated with Lucy and Zayn's bedroom antics as I was.
I couldn't help but let out a giggle, momentarily forgetting about recent events.
Harry immediately removed the pillow and stared at me wide eyed.
"What are you doing up?" He asked.
"Take a wild guess." I replied sarcastically, pointing towards Lucy's room and smiling so he knew I meant it as a joke.
"May I ask what you're doing sleeping on my sofa?" I sighed carrying my glass over water over, taking a sip and then placing it on the coffee table. Slumping down onto the sofa next to Harry and tucking my legs up onto it.
"Lucy basically gave me no choice, if I'd known I wouldn't be able to get any sleep I would've left."
"Well unfortunately for you it's too dark to be driving around London, so looks like you're stuck here."
He smiled slightly as we sat, engaging in a comfortable silence.
The calm atmosphere was soon interrupted by a series of exaggerated grunts from Zayn. Lucy squealing in response.
Myself and Harry burst out laughing. Harry clutching his stomach as it rocked with his laughter and my head tipped back with my giggles. Eventually the moans and whimpers subsided and Harry and I regained our normal composure and things got serious again after we had both calmed down fully.
"Are you truly happy with Niall?" Harry asked nervously, as if he was afraid of the answer.
I certainly wasn't expecting a question like that, especially not from Harry.
"Well I-I, w-why wouldn't I be?" I stuttered, as if it was obvious.
"No reason." He muttered turning his body to face in front if him again.
I grabbed the remote off the coffee table. There was no way I was going to answer anymore questions about my current relationship with Harry. It was just too awkward.
A repeat of Jeremy Kyle came on and I settled for that. Snuggling into the blanket Harry and I were now sharing. We weren't close, but the small distance between us was still enough to set my feelings a frenzy. All I wanted in that exact moment was for Harry to just wrap his arms around me and cuddle me close. For him to stroke my hair until I fell asleep on his lap. But that just couldn't happen.
Harry's POV
"You didn't go home with Sophia then." Ella interrupted the silence along with the quiet murmur of the tv.
I looked over at her in disbelief. If she wasn't jealous, why was she so interested?
"Well obviously not." I said, harsher than intended.
"Why do you care so much?" I added.
"I don't, I was just curious." She bit back.
"Why didn't you go home with Niall?" I retaliated childishly.
"Like I said, women's troubles." She said, not taking her eyes of the tv screen. I knew from her voice she was lying.
"Why do you care so much?" She used my own line against me. Turning and staring me in the eye.
I don't know what it was but in that moment all I needed was to kiss her. She looked so innocent, so vulnerable. Beautiful. Even wrapped in a furry dressing gown, pink fluffy slippers, her hair in a messy bun, and childishly arguing with me she was still the prettiest girl I had ever laid eyes on.
Before I could comprehend what I was doing I reached forward and stroked her cheek.
She just stared at me wide-eyed, she looked like she was restraining herself. As if she wanted to kiss me, but knew she shouldn't. I can't have imagined it. The look in her eyes gave it away that she wanted, even needed it as much as I did.
I cupped her left cheek in my hand and leant forward.
I gently let out a breath against her lips and ever so slightly brushed my lips against hers, as if she would break at the feel of my lips, a barely there, ghost kiss.
Realising she hadn't pushed me away I leaned in again intending to plant a kiss with more pressure onto her soft lips. But as I closed my eyes and leaned forward Lucy's bedroom door flew open. Her and Zayn skipping out.
My hand instantly dropped from Ella's cheek and she practically leapt to the other side of the sofa.
Ella's POV
"Oh Harry you're awake?" Lucy sounded surprised.
"What are you doing up Ella?" She questioned, switching on the kettle.
"Couldn't sleep." I mumbled.
"Oh well, do you want a coffee?"
"No thanks, I'm gonna try and get to sleep again. Night." I waved to Lucy and Zayn.
I turned to Harry, but he was staring blankly at the tv.
Closing my bedroom door behind me I let out a heavy breath I wasn't aware I was holding in.
Harry and I basically just kissed.
His lips barely graced mine but it was still enough to send sparks of electricity through me. The last time I felt like that was after the family party 2 years ago when he had kissed me, for real.
Did it mean Harry shared my feelings?
There was no way that it could happen again though. I was with Niall. Niall was literally perfect, why couldn't that be good enough for me?
IMPORTANT AUTHORS NOTE, I NEED YOUR SUGGESTIONS!
So chapter 30 peeps! How was it? Bit of drama in this chapter and I can assure you the story will have a lot more drama from now on as we slowly approach the climax of the book.
So I have a little mission for you, I've been thinking about a cast for Across the Road for a while now and I finally have one that I'm happy with, but I know I always hate it when an author posts a cast halfway through a book and I've imagined the characters played by totally different people. So before I post I would love to know who you imagine Ella, Lucy, Tyler etc. played as and if I like your suggestion I may just change them to yours. Inbox me or leave a comment.
Thanks,
Gemma xx
