Chapter 13

I’m freaking out. Tonight is the party. Tonight I have to sing. Jackson was going to bring his keyboard so Kendall didn’t question if I brought mine. Lily came over so we could get ready together.

     I wore a one shoulder black and white tighter dress. Lily wore a periwinkle strapless one. We were talking while getting ready in the bathroom. “So, I was at Fro-Yo Palace with Kendall and Anna whatever her last name is, calls me over. And she tells me about Adam. She said ‘he’ll either get obsessed with a girl and dump her or…’ And she never finished.” I said. Lily looks at me mortified. “I’ll find out. Don’t worry.” Lily slides some eyeliner on.

      Once we were done we walked downstairs and stopped at the bottom. “How do we look?” I ask, fixing my dress. “Gorgeous. Me?” Kendall asks, fixing his tie. “Dashing.” I giggle and do a British accent. We get into the car and go.

    I was anxious, nervous, excited and all of those wonderful feelings. We were standing around and I had a glass of water in my hand. “T, you need to lay off the caffeine, you’re shaking like a Chihuahua.” Kendall jokes. I fake laugh and go find Jackson.

    On my way there I saw James. “Hey cutie, Merry Christmas.” He hugs me and hands me a small box. I open it and It’s an Alex and Ani bracelet. One with my initials on it. “James, this is the only one I don’t have, so thank you.” I giggle and hug him. “What’d you get Kendall?” he asks. “You’ll see.” I say and run to Jackson. “Hey beautiful.” He goes to kiss me. “No time, I’m stressing.” I freak out. “You have half an hour. Did you eat anything?” Jackson asks. “No, I didn’t wanna puke on anybody.” I’m too nervous. “Good thinking.” Jackson jokes. I roll my eyes. “Lighten up. Even if you’re bad – which you won’t be – Kendall will love it anyway.” Jackson tries to calm me. I just breathe a lot and drink a ton of water. Of course I pee like 100 times in 20 minutes (exaggeration)

  “Chill out. They’re going to show the video now. You have 10 minutes of prep and relaxing.” Jackson takes a hold of my shoulders. I breathe, and watch the video. James looks backstage and give me a reassuring wink. I relax. Am I really about to do this? This is a bad idea. Nope. I turn around and walk away from the stage. (cut off)

  “Where do you think you’re going?” I hear James behind me. “I can’t do it, I CANNOT DO IT!” I freak out. I look at the countdown Jackson gave me, 5 minutes. “You have to. I will not let you chicken out. Look, Jackson played the recording for me. It’s amazing. And Kendall would love it even if it was less amazing. So go up there.” James nudged me towards the stage. The video ended and my heart dropped. Jackson ran over and kissed me. “For luck.” He smiled and I went up there. Might as well get this over with. Kendall was up front, he looked hella confused. “Hey, so as you can see I traded a night of sleeping for a song for someone who helped me a lot.” I lightly chuckle and smile. I put my fingers on the first notes of the song. My mind says ‘fuck it’ and I sing.

   At the end of the song I open my eyes and Kendall is gone. People clap and smile. I was focused on finding Kendall I got off stage hurried, and bump into someone. At first I’m surprised and then they hold me. “That was amazing Tessie.” Kendall whispered, I tightened my grip on him. He walks me over to a separate hallway. “You did that all in one night, for me?” he’s really shocked. I can tell. “Yeah…” I say. I’m looking at the ground, I’m not good with feelings. “Hey, c’mon you always do that, lemme see your face.” He lifts my chin up. “That was amazing. I can’t thank you enough. I just.” He pulled me into a back breaking hug. I started to laugh. “Where’s Lily?” Kendall asks, concerned. Just then, she runs over to us. “Come here!” Kendall yells and takes her into a hug. “Now come on, lets dance!” Kendall runs like a kid to the dance floor as they play Fall Out Boy. Lily and I just laugh and follow him.

     Hours of dancing and just being around really great people, I was extremely tired. It wasn’t even that late. Kendall had dropped Lily off at her house and we were driving home. I fell asleep.

Kendall’s POV

      T had fallen asleep on the way home. I’m still in shock over her singing. First of all, I didn’t know she could. Second, nobody has ever done anything like that for me, and she worked so hard on it. All of that just to thank me.

  I pulled into the driveway and parked the car. I looked over T, who’s asleep. It’s amazing how quickly someone becomes important to you. I took myself out of my thoughts and looked at the time, 11:30. I quickly wipe my eyes of the threatening tears – don’t judge – and got out of the car and went over to her side. I carefully lifted her out of the seat, while picking up the heels she abandoned at around 10:30 because they hurt. I lightly chuckled as I picked them up. I carried her to her room, but halfway up the stairs she woke up. “Hey, wash all the makeup off and get changed kiddo.” I whisper. She groggily nods her head. I waited while she did all of that and then tucked her into bed. “Night T, love you.” I kiss her head and she falls right back to sleep.
