Chapter 23
Dance boot camp kicked my ass. Cait started behaving better throughout the week, and she left Saturday. Now it's Wednesday and I'm lying on the couch in pain.
"Hey kid, take these." Kendall hands me some Ibuprofen. I take them and don't move. "I'm going out with Mickey, you gonna be okay here?" he asks gently. "Yeah." I sigh. "You sure? I could cancel and stay here." He says. "No just go." I say forcefully. "Geez, alright. I'll be back by nine." He says and leaves.
I lay there for a while, just watching TV. That is, until I got a text from Adam.
Adam: Hey, I was just wondering if you wanted to go out with me Friday to see Spiderman 2?
Kendall wanted to take me to see it. It was gonna be our movie night. But FUCK THAT HAHA I JUST GOT ASKED OUT
Me: Sure, what time?
Adam: I'll pick you up around 5 ;)
Me: Okay, see you in school Tomorrow :)
I felt my little heart flutter! I screamed with excitement. I don't think I ever felt this way about Jackson... PLUS he has his own car since he's a year older than me and he has his permit. He's not supposed to drive without a licensed adult, but if we don't get caught, we're all set!
Kendall's POV
"So, Cait hates you." Mickey says as we lie on her couch. "Way to let me down gently." I chuckle. I already knew this though. "Sorry." She giggles "I just don't know what's gotten into her lately." She wonders. "Well do you spend enough time with her?" I ask. "Between the two jobs and you and.... Oooohhhh.... She needs attention." Mickey realizes why Cait has been so rude lately. I smirk at her as a little sign like "you know I'm right".
She rolls her eyes, "Don't give me that look. I wanted to go out with you on Friday, but I guess not because now I need to spend time with my daughter." She chuckles. I really don't like how she said need to like spending time with her child was a chore. I disregard it.
"You wanted to go out Friday?" she never told me this plan. "Yeah, I was thinking about it. But nevermind. You can go see that movie with Tessa." She smiles. That movie. Chances are, if I say it like that - it means I don't like it or I'm annoyed by it. "Oh, I'm sorry. I promised T I would be home by nine, she's in a lot of pain from dance. I gotta go, love you." I tell a little white lie and kiss her goodbye.
It was only 9:15 and Tessa wouldn't care that I got home later, I just needed an excuse out of there. I just got into a really bad mood after she made spending time with her child sound like the worst thing on Earth.
"T! I'm home!" I say as I walk through the front door. "Hey! I'm going on a date Friday so you can hang out with Mickey okay?" she says cheerfully. "Oh, cool.... With who?" I ask a little hurt. "Adam! We're going to see Spiderman.."
Pang! Right in the heart. Disappointment.
