Chapter 14/WINNER

Chapter 14 - Christmas

    I woke up around 9. Kendall was obviously already awake. I don’t even remember getting changed last night. I groggily walk downstairs and see Kendall in the kitchen trying to cook. “What are you doing?” I laugh. “We’re going to family Christmas eve at my mom’s house and I have to make a desert.” He says staring intently at a cook book. “Kendall this place is a mess, baking isn’t that hard.” I chuckle and sit on a stool at the island. “Fine. You do it and I take the credit.” He jokes. “No, but I’ll help.” I stand up and go over to his side. “What are you making?” I ask. “Cherry Almond brownies.”he says proudly. Oh god. “Uhm, no. Kendall that’s gross. I hate, hate, hate, hate, nuts in my food.” I start looking through the cook book. “Let me take over. I’m gonna make something my mom did.” I find a big bowl and start. Death by Chocolate. Lots of chocolate pudding and whipped cream and more chocolate. And you keep it cold, no baking needed. Kendall was just watching while I worked. Soon enough I had it all done. “And leave this in the fridge until it’s time to go.” I smile as I close the fridge doors. “Woah, if I knew you could do that that six months ago…” he joked.  I playfully hit him and grabbed a mug of coffee.

         Kendall and I just lounged all day until it was time to get ready. I wore a simple sweater, jeans, and boots. But it needed something. “AY! YO KENDALL! YOU GOT A MAROON BEANIE I COULD BORROW!?” I yell down the hall. “WhAT THE HECK IS A MAROON?” he asks stupidly. “DARK RED, DUMMY!” I yell back. He responds by throwing a beanie at me from his room. “THANKS.” I put it on and I’m good to go.

       We grabbed the desert and left for his mom’s house. I had honeslty only met her once maybe, I don’t even know. I’ve obviously met Kevin, haven’t met Kenneth or their dad, or the rest of the family for that matter. So I’m pretty nervous.

        “Why are you so nervous? You’re family now, they’re obligated to like you.” Kendall chuckles. “Okay.” I mumble and we walk into the house. There weren’t many people there yet, but I guess we were early. His mom came running over to him. “Hi honey, merry Christmas.” She said cheerfully and hugged him. “You too sweetie.” She said less excited and walked away. Kendall just looked at me and shrugged, we walked into the livingroom. There was Kevin. “Merrry Christmas kiddo!” he squeezed me. “You too.” I smile. We sit on the couch and talk for a while, and then Kenneth walks in. “And you must be the girl Kendall…..stole?” he joked. “Hey!” Kendall yelled from across the room. “Yeah, he stole me.” I laugh.

        Other family members came and started asking me questions. One even asked me if I was his girlfriend. My response: nnononononoNONONONONONO.

                The night was fine except for when mama Schmidt dissed me.

By the time people were leaving, Kendall was helping his mom clean up. They were talking. “Wanna listen at the door?” Kevin said like a little kid, so we did.

Kendall: So, what was that earlier at the door, with T? I thought you liked her…

MS: But I don’t like that little stunt she pulled by not telling you she was here and then going behind your back to your best friends house.

Kendall: She had a reason. Mom, she’s my bestfriend/sister/child she’s family and you have to like her.

MS: That was a sign that you shouldn't trust her….

Kendall: Listen to me! I’m obviously not getting a girlfriend any time soon, so it’s nice to have someone with me that I care about but not in that way. So I’m asking you to please just be nice. You never have a problem with that. Why now?

MS: I still feel like you’re too young to take care of her. But you seem to have it all figured out.

Kendall: I do. If I need help can I at least trust that you’ll help me?

MS: Of course.

                And then we stopped. I just sighed and sat back down. “Don’t worry about it. We like you.” Kevin chuckled, I just rolled my eyes. “Oh here, before I forget.” Kevin hands me a card. I open it and a gift card to Victoria’s Secret(Pink) falls out. “Thanks! Kendall doesn’t want me to shop there because he thinks I’ll buy lingerie and go make a baby.” Kevin and I laugh. Then, Kendall comes out. “Alright lets go.” He says happily. “Thanks Kevin.” I say and hug him before we leave.

                “So what did Kevin give you?” Kendall asked curiously as we sit on the couch in our pyjamas. “Just a gift card.” I just brush it off. “To where?” he worries. “Victoria’s Secret..” I mumble. “Where? I couldn’t hear you.” He said. “VICTORIA’S SECRET.” I yell and we start to laugh. “Damn, that boy…” Kendall said. “Well, it’s late. I’m going to bed.” I say. “Night, love you.” Kendall squeezed me and kissed my head. I went upstairs to my room and checked my phone before I fell asleep. I had a voice message from an unknown number, I pressed play and put it up to my ear.

Hey Tessa, it’s mom. Uh…Merry Christmas…I’m just calling from the rehab place I’m in now. I know I’ve made some bad decisions lately, but I don’t want you to worry.

Kara told me what happened and I think it’s best you stay with Kendall. You’re much happier, thank him for me.

So that’s it. I guess I’ll see you when they decide I’m not crazy anymore. I love you.

                I don’t know what to do. So I just lock my phone and go to sleep.
