Chapter 20

    I wake up really groggy and my mouth is dry. Damn, the only thing I hate about those pills. I go downstairs and grab a drink. I look at the time, 10am! It’s a fricking TUESDAY. I freak out and start getting ready for school. “You’re not going to school, I know you have a tech rehearsal, principle said you could go to rehearsal since you’re not sick.” Kendall said standing in the doorway. “Oh…why am I home?” I ask, sitting back down on my bed. “Those pills make you sleep forever sometimes. I thought I’d let you rest.” He’s still standing at the doorway. I nod slowly. “T, I-“ I cut him off by going back into bed and laying down, not facing him.

First show Night

   What I’ve been doing to Kendall is the real definition of icing someone out. He bought tickets for tonight’s show, and he didn’t talk or ask about it in the past few weeks, and one of my other friends have been driving me to rehearsal.

 “Do you see him?” I ask Adam, sounding really uninterested. “No, but then again, we do have one of the biggest auditoriums in the state so you never know…” he says, peeking out from behind the curtain. I just walk back to the dressing rooms to get into costume.

  Before going onstage I erase every un-needed thing from my brain. Kendall, Jackson still ignoring me or when I text him giving fuCKING ONE WORD ANSWERS, Anna and her bullshit, Adam. Done. Let’s go.

        The entire night, I didn’t see Kendall. Well…the stage lights are so bright you can’t see past the first row so I wouldn’t be able to see him anyway.

Kendall’s POV

     “Oh my gosh she’s doing so good!” Mickey whisper screeched as T sang. And she was right. I really wish T knew I was here though. “Kendall stop talking to yourself, Tess is coming back on in a sec.” Lily whispered next to me. T thinks she’s coming to the next show or something, but I brought her tonight. Wait, I said all of that out loud? Oops. But Lily was spot on and a minute later T came back out. I can’t wait to see her reaction when she sees me.

Tessa’s POV

   As the curtain closes we all scream with triumph and happiness that we finished our first show with no problems. I walk back into the girls dressing room and see a text from Jackson.

Received at 5:30

Jackson: Good Luck babe! I’m sorry I haven’t been texting or having much contact with you. I’m just really busy and I really haven’t talked to anyone lately, but I’ll be back to see you on the last show! Call me when it’s over xoxo <3

           That made me smile so much, I haven’t smiled like that in a while.

    I walk out into the lobby with some friends, expecting nobody to be there for me. I got my phone ready to call someone to drive me home but – “TESSIE!” Lily screamed and tackled me. I start laughing. “You did so great!” she squeals. “Thanks. Who brought you?” I ask and pull away from her. “I did.” Kendall comes up behind me. I whip around and face him. I don’t even care that he forgot me anymore because well…he didn’t. I run over and hug him. “I thought you forgot.” His neck muffled my cry. “Sshh, I could never forget.” He said, carrying me out to the car.

   “You did amazing Tess.” Michaela smiled. It’s not her that I was mad at, it was Kendall. So don’t think I don’t like her. I barely know her. Again, thanks to Kendall. “Thanks.” I return the niceness. “I’ve got to get back home, see ya.” She said, Lily and I turned away in disgust as they kissed before she left. “Oh please, you suck face with Jackson all the time.” Kendall laughs.

   We drove Lily home and went home ourselves. The ride was silent, except for the quiet radio playing.

    We got home and I was ready to go up to my room but Kendall stopped me. “No no no. come here.” He says points me toward the couch. I sit down not expecting what happens next. “So, I’m not mad at you or anything for icing me out this past week because I obviously deserved it. If anything you should hate me because I got so caught up with my girlfriend she had to remind me that your musical was this week. And yeah, I know I’m a horrible guardian, and you can tell Charlotte if you want. I’m just really sorry and I don’t know what else to say because this obviously doesn’t happen often and –“ he was quickly ranting but I cut him off because it was pitiful.

  “Kendall! It’s fine. You came today and that’s all that I care about right now. I only iced you out because hell yeah I was pissed you were forgetting major events, and then I was just mad I didn’t have anyone to talk to because Jackson disappeared for a while and Lily has her own shit to deal with. That’s all.” I say simply. “You were too stubborn to stop hating me.” Kendall chuckles. “Yep.” I giggle.

    “Well we got a lot of talking to do. Oh and here.” Kendall says and hands me a medium sized box. I open it, it’s an Alex and Ani bracelet. He knows I love these. The traits were ‘Beauty, Intelligence, Talent’. I smile and put it on. “Thanks.” I say quietly and hug him. “You’re welcome. Now, I have a question.” He pauses. “Why did I find you asleep on the top of the stairs the other day?” he asks. I don’t want to tell him. But I have to. “Anna is spreading a stupid rumor that I’m cheating on Jackson with Adam and she took a picture of us kissing on stage and edited it a little to make it look real. So now everyone hates me and thinks I’m a slut.” I say quietly. “T, why didn’t you tell me?” he asks, worried. I give him my famous ‘are you fucking kidding me?’ look.

    “Alright, I know. But Jackson is obviously okay, he knows you would never do that. Don’t even worry about it. Stupid rumors like that blow over quickly. It’ll be okay.” He wraps an arm around me. “So, I know I missed competitions because I’m a horrible person, so show me the trophies.” He stands up and follows me to my room.
