Over the past few years, new technology has been developed throughout the cities within the Walls. One of those terrific inventions was the bicycle, a new type of transportation that consisted of two wheels held together, and was propelled by pedals from the rider. It was truly the start of a new era - one of which technology would soon be ruling the three Walls.

Mass production began and soon everyone on the street had one - children, even. It was obvious since they flooded the roads with laughs and giggles as they fell off or were simply chasing each other around. It was particularly normal for your parents to use them as well. Although training was difficult and it took a while for those to practice it, it truly was a blessing for the cities.

For the Scouting Legion, bikes were passed out to all soldiers for use. However, it was tested that they were no match to the maneuvering gear, so bike use outside the Walls were prohibited. It was reasonable since you wouldn't bike away from a gargantuan cannibal chasing after you, now would you?

It was also tested, though no one got hurt (thankfully Mikasa was quick enough to step in when things got a little out of hand).

You really did feel bad for Armin that day.

Speaking of Armin, your friends were testing out their cycling skills on the training grounds. Although the platform was solely for training and sparring only, your superiors allowed the use of bikes on them, since soldiers were not yet used to the bumpy terrain that they'd soon have to deal with.

You were watching from under the shade of a tree, with many others that surrounded the slightly desolate training area. You laughed as some soldiers fell over and simply cursed for the pain they had to endure. However, you were surprised at how much effort they put into learning how to use them properly. One of those bicycle-dedicated soldiers was Eren, who would start off slow, then eventually fall over.

"Eren, I think you have to pedal harder," you called out to your struggling friend, who was obviously getting frustrated at his inabilities. "You're not getting anywhere with that speed..."

"Fuck, it's the maneuvering gear balance test all over again!" he shouted in a desperate tone. "Is this one defective? Maybe that's why I can't ride it!"

"You can't always blame the equipment for your failures." Mikasa calmly stated as she circled around him on her bike, which was tinted black.

Some soldiers were able to master bicycling. You were one of them, as well as Mikasa, and Jean, who were your younger friends that enlisted in the military a few years ago. Even the Commander knew how to use it. Although it took you many weeks to practice, you were able to keep your balance most of the time, and soon you would be cycling all around town. You wondered how those three were able to practice and master it as well, though you assumed that they were able to adapt to it much more easily than most people around here.

One thing that bothered you the most was that you didn't know if the Corporal had mastered the art of cycling. You rarely saw him since he was always crammed into that small office of his in the castle. Perhaps he felt that he didn't need to bicycle. He never really knew how to have fun anyways.

You decided to brush it off since it would take a while for him to even show up today. For the time being, you'd just watch over your friend's failures as they failed miserably to cycle.

Sundown was approaching and all cyclers were beginning to set aside their skills and prepare for tonight. Soldiers were called in for dinner, and no one inhabited the training grounds with a bicycle in sight. You noticed this when you were making your way to the Dining Hall, unbeknownst to you that the Corporal was following shortly behind.
