We all gathered around Joel and Moriah's living room. I was holding my cat, scared about the next words out of their mouths.
"When we first met you," Joel began "We just thought you were lost. We thought that you had a family waiting for you. We went through most of our adventure believing that."
"Guys, I'm so sorry I lied to you. I was afraid of being sent away."
"We went through a whole bunch together. And we made deep connections with you. And we want you to know that no matter what happens, we love you. Anything you want to add, Luke?"
He had tears in his eyes when he started talking.
"I agree with Joel. You are beautiful, smart, outgoing, well-rounded, talented, and one of the best things that has ever happened to me. But," here it comes "We can't keep a girl that isn't under our name, that isn't legally ours, and that isn't actually a part of the family in our home."
I knew it. My heart was crushed.
"So, on behalf of everyone here..." he stood up "Welcome to the Smallbone family, daughter."
My eyes got wide. I can't believe it! Luke is adopting me!
"Are you serious!?" I shouted. I ran up to him and hugged him. "You're my dad!" I hugged Courtney "You're my mom!" I hugged Jude and Phoenix "You are my brothers!" I hugged Joel "You're my uncle!" I hugged Moriah "You're my aunt!" I hugged my cat "You're my cat!"
"Wasn't he always your cat?" Luke chuckled.
"Yeah, but now he's DOUBLE my cat!"
"It's gonna be confusing with two Luke Smallbones in the house." Joel said.
"What about middle names?" Moriah suggested.
"I may or may not have made his middle name James," I said.
"Of course," Luke started to laugh.
"Maybe the fact that one's a cat and ones a human will be helpful." I said.
"Nah, they both sleep a lot and cuddle," Courtney laughed "There's no telling them apart."
"I'm gonna have to get used to my last name being Smallbone." I said.
"Celeste Smallbone," Luke said "Has a nice ring to it."
"We have the same initials, Courtney!" I said, then paused "Oops. I mean Mom. It kind of is awkward calling you guys Dad and Mom."
"It's okay with me if you call me Luke," Luke said.
"And it's okay if you call me Courtney," Courtney said.
"Thanks, guys," I said "You guys don't know how happy I am."
"Okay, it's time to go home." Luke said.
"Oh yeah, Luke, Courtney, don't forget to treat Luke's and Celeste's wounds!" Moriah shouted after us.
"We won't!" Courtney said.
We walked in to Luke and Courtney's house. My new home. With my new family.
I started to cry. I hugged Luke very tightly and smiled.
A genuine smile.Yay! Everything turned out alright. Comment if you'd like a sequel!
