At around 12:00 when I knew that Jordan and Charlotte were asleep, I woke up and untied Joel and Luke. I opened the window to leave, but for some reason Joel wouldn't budge.
"Joel," I whispered "Come on!"
"You let them take Luke," he said "And you said that you'd join them. You told them you'd kill us. Why should I trust you?"
"Oh, Joel, I was acting! Come on, do you want to live or not?"
"You were going to kill me and Luke!"
Before I could control myself, I slapped him in the face. He was stunned.
"Wake up, Joel!" I half yelled, half whispered "Do you realize how stupid you sound!? I am trying to bust you out. This was all part of a plan. You know how we're this close to escaping? Because Luke trusted me. He trusted me with his life. I didn't let him down. Why would I let you down? You need to trust me. Please."
Joel sighed and climbed out the window. Luke got his bike, and I got mine. Joel ran with us to some bushes where we would be hidden.
"How are we gonna travel with Joel?" Luke asked.
"Surprise, surprise!" I pulled out another fold-out bike.
"Where did you get that?"
"Stole it from Jordan and Charlotte."
"You stole?"
"Sometimes you gotta do the wrong things for he right reason."
Joel got on the bike, and I put my cat, who was hiding in my backpack, on the basket. After we rode for a while, we found a creek with another nice view.
"I think this means that we're getting close to home!" Joel exclaimed.
"Yeah, but we have to camp out here. I'm tired," Luke said.
So we set everything up and went to the creek to get some water. We were all very happy to get some water. I also gave my cat some water.
"Oh! I almost forgot!" I ran up to Joel and took his earring off.
"Hey, what are you-"
I threw it as far away as I could into the creek. Hopefully the current will take it as far away as possible.
"The tracker was in your earring," I explained "Sorry, I promise I'll get you some new ones."
"No, it's okay." he said. I'm happy that he wasn't mad at me anymore.
We prayed earlier than usual. This time I was happy to join in with them.
"Celeste," Luke said, surprised "You prayed this time."
"Well, a little Joely taught me to be faithful and confident with prayer."
"Joely?" Joel chuckled.
"Yup. Take it and like it or take it and hate it."
"So many people have called me that." he smiled.
"Embrace it."
We slept in shifts again. I took a blanket from Jordan so Joel and I didn't have to tug of war. Luke STILL snuggled close to me. I guess it's because he needs comfort. Or did he sense that I needed comfort?
I woke up in the middle of the night. I had an idea. Luke's dream. Luke was the one on shift at the time that I woke up. He looked at me trying to think.
"What'cha thinking about?" he stared at me.
"Your dream! I understand it."
"What?"
"You were with Courtney, and it was Father's Day, representing that this is in the future. Obviously saying that everything will turn out okay. I was there in my PJs. I think that does mean that you adopted me." I paused.
"And the rest of the dream? Do you know?"
"Uh... No, not yet." I do know what it means. I just didn't wanna admit it.
"You're lying to me," he said.
"What makes you say that?"
"Because every time you lie, you hesitate. You usually say 'uh.'"
"That's not true!"
"Then what's the rest of the dream?"
"I... I don't know!" I said.
"See? Hesitation. Please tell me. Something is wrong. Is it telling you why I'm adopting you? You have a family at home."
"I'm fine. It, uh, it was just a dream."
"You obviously know something," he looked at me "But you also obviously don't wanna tell me. Maybe the time isn't right."
"I... Want to tell you..."
"Then why don't you?"
"If I do, you'll know everything."
"Everything about what?"
"Nothing."
"Okay..."
I really wanted to tell him! But that dream can't be true. If I tell him, or ANYONE, I'll just be sent to an orphanage. I don't want to go there. I don't deserve that.
As glad as I am that I figured out what Luke's dream meant, it scared me. No way is that true.
I went to bed, and as soon as I dozed off, I had a terrible nightmare. There were people taking me away. Luke and Joel had their backs turned, and they were walking away, obviously unaware of what was going on behind them. I was yelling their names but they didn't hear. The people eventually threw me into the back of a truck. As the guy closed it, I woke up.
Okay, I have to tell them the dream.

I wonder how this is gonna turn out...
