Chapter 7

Ivy's POV

I shut the door to my office and rested on it as I took a deep breath in.

My breath came out shaky.

Little unimportant things.

I blinked fast to stop the tears that were trying to escape.

I wouldn't cry.

I can't cry.

I've cried enough for that bastard. I wouldn't let him do that to me again.

I wouldn't be weak cause of him.

I did a 'in and out' routine before I became finally calm. Calm enough to get started.

I went behind my desk, in the office which was in the same floor as Mr. Connor and near his office.

Civil.

I can be civil.

But the fact that dad appointed him CEO is still bothering me.

Why would dad do that?

I have to find out.

Later though. I've got work to do.

I placed my bag on the other side of the table where it wouldn't be a disturbance. My phone near me and I opened the file which Claire had given me.

She said it was a summary of the company's account from the beginning of the year till last month.

It was drafted bi-monthly.

I was almost done when someone knocked.

"Come in" I said

"Ivy?" I looked up to see Claire

"Yes?" I smiled at her

She walked towards my desk with a bag.
"You skipped lunch. Thought I'd bring you something" she said dropping the bag in my table

"Lunch?" I was surprised "I wasn't aware of the time"

She laughed
"Just like your dad never was" she said making me smile again

"Claire can I get a copy of the business dealings the year before Mr. Connor came and the year he was appointed CEO?" I asked her

"Of course" she said

"Is Mr. Connor in his office?" I don't know what pushed me to ask that, but I did anyway

She gave me a weird smile
"No" she said "He went out a few minutes after you left his office. He hasn't returned since"

My brows creased at that.

"But he's been calling me to send some office documents to him to his house's fax number" she said

I nodded

Why would he leave the office and choose to work at home?

"I'll go get you that copy now" She said, leaving

"Yea" I said to myself as she left

The situation got me thinking.

Dave wasn't one to just up and leave. What could have made him do that?

My fingers tapped my desk as I wondered.

Something was going on.

From my parents to Dave.

I have to find out what's going on. But it'll have to wait till next week. I don't have time for myself and graduation's on Friday.

I sighed.
