'There aren't too many things that are for certain, and even less that we take for certain. I have already made the mistake that all people make at some point. I took something for certain, that wasn't certain. I thought my father would care enough to keep me safe, I was wrong. I thought Nightwing would accept me enough to allow my presence, even not as a hero, I was wrong. I thought my sister loved me enough to stay with me, I was wrong. I thought my blood brother would honor me enough to give me rest, I was wrong. I had taken too many things for certain, and I was wrong. I thought the League knew me enough to allow my life, I was wrong.'
------
When I woke up at noon the next morning the house was silent, Kayla wasn't playing in her room or trying to wake me up, Damian was with the Teen Titans, and Daddy, Daddy wasn't making a noise. Alfred was his normal silent self, I don't normally hear him unless I'm trying. But, even trying now, I didn't hear a thing. I quickly dressed and went to Daddy's study where I had the easiest access to the 'basement,' I didn't hear anybody on the way down, and nobody was in the basement. I started working on the computer, Batman was on the watchtower, 'why on earth is he there in the middle of the day? Probably some League thing.' I looked at where Kayla was, at the Titian Tower, 'probably with Damian. But why is she out in the middle of the day? Both of them gone and not a note' again I shook it from my head. 'They have their reasons, it's not my place to know. But I had to do something, if I didn't tell the League about what not me did, Nightwing would and he would make sure that I was never near them again.' Some side thought asked where Al was but he wasn't my priority at this point.
Recognized, Midnight B 27
I started looking around for Batman when Nightwing rounded a corner right in front of me.
Nightwing, "Darkness! I thought you were down with Robin at Titian Tower, what are you doing up here?" He had a semi-smug and happy demeanor that I didn't like.
Me, "1 Midnight," I pointed to my face, "2 I'm looking for batman, do you know where he is?"
He instantly changed, "You're done here, forever." The boiling anger and hate didn't show through his face but I felt all of his emotions.
I walked around for a while bumping into few others, the watchtower seemed to be deserted, even the workers were scarce. The tension in the air was palpable to those's that aren't me. I went looking for the source. I wish I hadn't.
"Something has to done about this." Superman's voice carried out the apprehension "You know it does."
"I too believe something has to be done, but what you and suggesting would seem slightly extreme." Martian Manhunter's calmer mood felt good.
"She almost destroyed an entire planet, it's what we did to Abomination and Darkside."
"Correction, that's what YOU did to Abomination and Darkside, and he's still running around out there." Green Lantern always has trepidation in his voice.
The argument was building, I stood outside the door listening waiting to hear if Batman was in there, then I heard it.
"Enough." It was small, almost a conversational tone, he was scared.
There was a long silence for a minute, I didn't know if they were thinking or just taking a conversational pause.
Superman, "Batman,"
Batman, "Don't, she told me." They're talking about me.
Superman, "That only means she knew what she did, which makes her that much more deadly."
Batman, "She's not deadly!" Every moment the fear and anger and all other emotions in the room arose. "She's my daughter." It was almost silent but still I heard it, which means they did too.
There was a grunt, then, "It's back." Martian Manhunter. "Outside, it's close."
I was also upset, 'What was Superman planning to do to me? And something had to be wrong with Manhunter, every time I was around him he always got weird feelings.' I made a connection, 'It must be something else I have, do I feed off of emotions?'
The door opened, I was face-to...well...chest with Superman, "What are you doing here?" the unease in his voice was more than obvious. I stepped back.
Me, "I was looking for Batman, I was waiting for him once I heard him."
Superman wasn't at all happy that I was here, "How long have you been eavesdropping?"
I took another step back, "I wasn't, I was only here for a moment." I wasn't nervous, but I was unhappy, I was probably going to get caught.
Batman pushed past Superman and walked me down the hall a short way, sending a glare backwards.
Me, "I thought you would have told them earlier, but what are you all talking about? What's wrong with me?" The uneasy showed through his mask.
Batman, "Nightwing told us, them about what 'you' did to that planet, that along with everything, they don't like you very much."
Me, "I had gathered that, but, what was he thinking about doing?" He couldn't look at me anymore, "What did he do to Abomination?"
He could hardly say anything, but after a moment he finally spoke, "He lobotomized Abomination. Darkside he threw an asteroid on, he was dead but he's back, somewhere."
He kept going on about something with me being safe, he'll keep him from killing me, but honestly, that was what I was most worried about was the fact that someone even wanted to kill me.
Superman wanted to kill me.
I was going to die.
Batman had at some point knelt done and held me, now I was truly afraid. At the compound I knew they wouldn't kill me, they couldn't afford to, but now, if what I heard and what my Father was telling me was true, I was going to be dead.
I had to leave, I couldn't stay here, I wrestled out of his grasp and ran.
I had to get to the Zeta tubes, they would let me out, out and away from my killer.
To my safety.
To my life of hiding, from Superman.
She's angry, but tell me do you think she's overreacting, or does her suspicion have a basis in truth? I'm also happy that I got this one out so soon.
Stay Whelmed :)
